That’s exciting and - I would suggest - very good news about the work thing. It’ll do others a favour too with luck as they (management) can’t carry on forever ignoring that people are genuinely unhappy, stressed and nearing burnout. Well done for identifying that it was time to jump.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Life’s far too short to be stressed all the time.I am the eldest and I hated that I was the trailblazer being the first to ‘do’ things when I was still alive a few weeks later my sister was allowed to do them ! Sounds like a good move on the job front, hope it all works out for you 🍀2

Fab news on the job! I'm an only child and have just the one DD; but I do remember the story about the guy who despised his parents for their ignorance at 18 but couldn't believe how much they'd learned in just 3 years when he hit 21....4

My Mum used to quote that one a lot andI seem to remember telling my daughter the same thing.

I cling to that quote too
Well done on the job front. You've not been happy for a while so hopefully this is a fresh start and will give you a financial boost too.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Thanks Dawny, Mark, EH, Looby, DITR, Humdinger, LH and SH
You're all very lovely.
I can imagine it does suck being the eldest in a bigger family sometimes. We try and keep the 'firsts' roughly the same ie they all get their first mobile at 11, their bedtimes are linked to age, pocket money starts at same age etc but other things probably do seem unfair as we've adapted and learned as they (and we) have got older and wiser(?)... I chuckled the other day when my littlest said something cheeky and she corrected him using a phrase I would, she didn't know I was within earshot and she turned to my 16 year old and said 'god, I sound like Mum, is this how it happens?' and he was 'sometimes she speaks sense'
I have no idea if this new role will suit me, but I'm mid 40s and have worked in NHS for 20 years. I earn £20ph and get treated like a minion by the bosses... a lot of patients are absolutely lovely but others are vile, you genuinely see the whole spectrum. The covid thing has brought the best and worst out of everyone and after 2 years of it, many of us have had enough and are ready to be more selfish. Life's too short.
I'm aware I'm fortunate, DH earns a very good wage and it gives me flexibility. He's also pretty chill... I could tell him I was going to have a few months out of work and he'd say 'ok, as long as you can work out how to cover it financially' or I could say I'm going to work full time and he'd say 'ok. as long you can work out how to cover everything else'

My daughter rang me one day when her eldest was little and said in a despairing voice "I am turning into you". I think it was the first time she said to her daughter the same as I used to say to her. Now when she complains about something either of them has done (usually being untidy) I just look at her and say what goes around comes around and laugh.
