When is it expected that LLoyds will resume with dividend payments and are Barclays still paying them?
  • Just recently started dealing, ive gained about £1100 profit in this tax year, and have lost approx £600 on Bradford and Bingley  so really £500 profit made

I know im entitled to a allowance of £9600 Capital Gains Tax

But do i need to declare any profit made to the taxman if it falls below my CGT allowance, and is there any other tax payable (ie) 20% tax rate?

Hopefuly someone can enlighten me,as the govt tax web site seems to indicate i dont need to declare or pay any tax at all under my cgt allowance?

Thanks in advance for any advice

You don't need to declare any profit under the allowance as long as your total disposals in any one tax year come to less than four times the allowance. There is no other tax to pay.

Big rallies on the FTSE and Dow today. :)

News on US GDP on Friday is likely to be a kicker, though.

  • I am the Executor of my late Mother's estate. She only had one lot of shares, 109 Rolls Royce shares and I need to sell them.

Does anyone have any ideas as to the quickest/cheapest way of doing this pls?

I've tried Barclays, but have to open a trading account, which is ridiculous for only one transaction, and Computershare (where the shares are registered) say that I've got to transfer them to my name before I can sell them, which seems equally ridicuous, as they've kept a copy of the Order of Probate I sent them!

I'd be grateful for any help.

    Thanks

Personally I'd just put them into your name and collect the dividends as it is only about £350.

Just keep them and you can always say that you own Part of the Company.

And you may then feel more confident about owning shares. If not you will have to open an account, pay some fees for the transaction I'd guess about £15.00 try http://www.npbs.co.uk/sharedealing/ thats Norwich & Peterbourough Buildig Society there tel no is 0151 242 3570.

Can they be transferred that easily, given that the original holder cannot sign the relevant paperwork? I ask because my mother had a holding of some shares when she died recently, my brother has a holding with the same company, transferring them to him would be logical if it can be done.
Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

  • Thanks both.

I have a share dealing account of my own, but that's not relevant here, because the proceeds of the sale are not payable to me, they must go into the estate and be divvied up between all the beneficiaries under the terms of her will. And I don't really want the shares in my name, because that might complicate my personal tax situation.

Barclays wanted me to open a trading account as Executor, which is why I said it was ridiculous because it would just be for one transaction and then the account would be closed again.

I'll have to try to persevere with ComputerShare.

    Thanks again

  • Does anyone know how to close accounts on SelfTrade? I opened a Shares ISA only to find out when they mailed me that there was a £25 annual charge for having one :(
