and HBOS is nationalised, will the government buy my shares at the going rate or will they become worthless or reduced in value?
Look to Northern Rock for your answer to that.
Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

  • Hbos voted for the merger. I dont think you can sell them and still receive lloyds shares as well since they will have no value after conversion

I read on another board that HBOS was a good buy at the minute. Is it worth a gamble. I don't understand what the takeover/merger will mean to me should I buy shares now though
  • Information on Friday's HBOS shareholder meeting is available on the pages of Lloyds TSB that covers the acquisition. We have put this site together to cover off any questions that customers and shareholders of both Lloyds TSB and HBOS may have. Hope you find this useful: www.lloydstsb.com/hbosacquisition Neil, on behalf of Lloyds TSB.
  • just received LloydsTSB open offer which I gather is a rights issue without rights !

I see the shares are priced at 173.3p per share yet the LloydsTSB share price today is only 133p

Am I missing something or would I not be better buying shares on the open market and saving 40p each ?

I used to like investing. I generally get an ISA (usually rushed just before the deadline), and have various odd collections of shares (including paper shares) and unit trusts. My investments are all over the place and a total mess.

I now find the process of dealing with these things tedious. I have no clear idea what I have anymore. Could a kind person suggest a way of maintaining information on my investments online, so that I know what I have and can easily dispose of things when I get round to it.

Nominee accounts will help you, but you will need to transfer all your documents to them. They will then hold them all in the same portfolio for you.

Thanks for the suggestion Mrposhman. I had to do a Google search on 'nominee accounts', but I am up with these now (and think I may even have a few already, somewhere). Is there advice on the most user friendly (and cheapest) dealers to use somewhere?

My DS23 has the basic shared for having accounts with Abbey and Halifax when they floated. They have stayed there and will hopefully go towards a house deposit when he is in the market and the time is right to buy.

However, recently we keep getting some correspondence about Rights Issues, etc. and to be honest I am not up to date enough any more to know what if anything we should do with them. I am not asking for investment advice, but for someone to try to explain what is being offered in normal language, as I know there are some on here who understand shares/share dealing, which I admit I do not.

    Thanks
