    Hi there,

Can anyone please recommend a broker for trading shares & ETFs in the medium to long term? Preferably, the broker will have stable finances, charge reasonable commissions, and allow me to hold shares in my own name if possible. Any information will be much appreciated. Thanks a lot.

    Quick question,

How long does it take to transfer funds INTO Hoodless Brennan?
I know a friend who uses iii and says it's instant....

Same with Halifax Share Dealing (Well, I bank with them as well) but when I transfer funds in, I can trade with it instantly. Although the money had yet to be removed from my linked account.....

    Anyone has any experience here?

  • Ive sent a pm but selftrade does need you to buy or transfer at least 500 GBP shares so its a bit more involved then most offers

  • Ok dude Ive replied and sent you a referral but telling me you had already setup an account with selftrade ready to be referred sounds like you may have misunderstood the idea of a referral

I want to start trading in shares with an online and telephone provider.
    Selftrade
    Sharedeal active
Both the above companies are quite cheap to trade with but are they reliable? can you get through on the phone lines? and is logging on a problem if the website is busy?

Is there any information I can find out about these type of brokers any where on the web? would I be better paying more for a better service?

On the Motley Fool website noticed a few people complaing about problems with selftrade recently.

    Any advice welcome.

Have you looked at the brokers board on TMF? Quite a few discussions there ( LINK ).

FWIW, I have found Selftrade useless at times over the last few weeks - both online and by phone it was impossible to get through. On the one occasion that I was able to place an order it didn't get filled. They have made an attempt at explanation on the dedicated board ( LINK ).

On the whole full service brokers seem to have fared better - I was able to get through to Hargreaves Lansdown no problem. My conclusion - cheap is fine as long as the markets are operating " normally ".
