Unsure if you guys can advise but does anyone have any advice regarding the recent UU share offer. We are being offered 17 shares in a new company for every 22 we hold in UU. this is together with a B share for each share we hold which can be redeemed at £1.70 per B share. The company has just sold its electricity distribution business for approx 1.5 billion so company size has reduced. They have also indicated that future dividend will be reduced by 30%.

I am not an expert and am in a quandary as I was under the impression they were returning this £1.70 per share to shareholders, however this appears to be a neutral move and I cannot see where any value can come.

Does anyone think these shares may increase given the shares that have been bought back and hence reduced the amount of shares in circulation? To me it looks a bad move to stay, although I think I will wait until ex div day which is 25 June to sell. Has anyone got any thoughts as any help or information guidance is appreciated and I realise you cannot give me advice dues to FSA restrictions. Perhaps examples would bne useful.

Further to my last post I have decided to sell. I have about £24k worth of shares to go (I have calculated I fall within the CGT band so wont pay this). I have 5 shares certificates. Whats the best place to go to sell them, Hoodless Brennan or somewhere else? If I got a recommend for Selftrade would I need to buy and sell more in the future or would they let me cancel the account. I suppose same applies to Hoodless, I am really at this moment looking for this one off trade!

cheers in advance for any help you can offer :T

I would definitely recommend Selftrade for this purpose. They will let you use their accounts for a one off purchase/sale with no requirement to use them again.

Also, if you take advantage of their referral scheme the £80 you get for joining them (my own details are in post 295) would more than take care of any costs you face for selling 5 holdings.

Hoodless now charge an 'inactivity fee' if you open an account and then dont use it regularly - unlike Selftrade..

How quickly would I be able to start trading from setting the account up? What sort of costs would I be looking at for the £24k worth of shares I have, they are in the same company but on 5 different certificates.

EDIT - email sent to Sunil for more info

    Hi all,
I want to buy approx £5000 of shares in a company, and hold them for about 1 year then sell most of them.
As I am only looking for 1 buy and 1 sell. And I know the company I want the shares in, what are the cheapest solutions?
    Thanks for all advice.
    Matt

As I have posted previously, I would recommend Selftrade who charge £12.50/trade but have a referral scheme where you could get up to £80 for joining them (my own details are in post 295)

This means you would make a 'net profit' of £55 after dealing costs..

Is selftrade good for all values? I'm starting off just looking at spending around £250 in one company, and seeing where it goes from there. I'll probably have it in there for a while, so monthly/quarterly fees won't be too good.

I've got small amounts of shares in nine companies held with Selftrade and worth around £3,500.

I'd like to sell most of them and buy around £1,000 shares in each of three companies.

    Can anyone help me decide...

    1. Should I do the whole thing with Squaregain or sell then switch to, for example, Interactive Investor's current deal? Much of the advice in this thread to use Squaregain depends on getting the initial bonus, but I've already had that!

    2. What are the pros and, if any, of transferring these shares into a new ISA (As usual, I won't have any more money this year to use my allowance). And is there any way I can have the dividends reinvested, which Squaregain won't currently allow me to do.

    Many thanks.
  • I've put a referral request for Selftrade on the thread on the referrals board, going to move out of my FTSE 100 ISA and try some self select shares instead.
