  • Hi,

David John Rose is at it again under a different eBay username: stesp-62 with another bargain not to be missed a 2014 Ford S-Max.

My partner received the same email from a David John Rose so I googled his name and typed Isle of Man on the end of it and found it was mentioned on here.

On the photo the car is located at Runcton Cottages Ipswich when I googled Runcton Cottages Ipswich I found a very interesting story about the wife finding the husband hanging from the ceiling. they run a business called Gallagher Car and Van Rentals they also have a facebook page and this S-max was for sale on there back in November 2018 for a lot more money, its a very strange story but very interesting.

You saved us from being scammed out of £4,500 for the S-Max.

    Regards
    ChellyG

Surely Plod or Fraud Squad can track him down and take him off the web?

One officer told its inquiry the crime was not considered a priority because it does not "bang, bleed or shout".

    mmmmmmmmmmmm

cheque arrived from Lagos (yayyyy) it was a company cheque account - a London based firm

    I banked it

it showed clear in 48 hours and that moment the phone rang - 0208 number

    i didnt answer it

it never rang again and in 12 hours the cheque was "uncleared"

    it was a stolen cheque

    well executed scam pre-ebay/paypal/BACS....

  • I’ve been looking to buy a motor home and have received the same emails from DAVID JOHN ROSE

I have just fell for it ,even got a small loan to pay for the vehicle! This time a camper van.
Same scam word for word and the same name!
I am so gutted I fell for it, I’m normally pretty good at spotting scams but you tend to put blinkers on when you look at the ad , and the PayPal part of it is so realistic. I even checked the vehicle with DVLA it all checked out ok even the mileage was correct.
I will never again communicate out of the eBay platform.
Surely the bank account has to be traced back to someone or some company!
One of the hardest things in the world today is opening a bank account without giving your life story!
They can’t just keep getting away with
    It surely
  • This guy is still active and the advert I got scammed on is still active on ebay even though I have told eBay what has happened!
My brother has enquired about the same vehicle and has been contacted by this David John Rose to do exactly as I have done!
How can eBay let this carry on?
Does anyone have any advise how we can track this guy down or who to contact he must be traceable !
  • Check out "Ebay Vehicle Scam Alerts" group on Facebook. Lots of good advice there.

There are literally thousands of scam adverts each and every day on Ebay. They are normally removed within minutes due to being reported by members but another batch soon follows. Even in this short time as has been shown, a few people will fall victim to the scammers.

This is highly organised crime and Ebay should be doing more.

Vehicles are not covered by Paypal protection.

Many of the Ebay accounts are genuine but have been hacked by the scammers. This is why they always want you to correspond directly by email and not through Ebay.

All of the vehicles will have been legitimately listed on Ebay by their real owners previously. If you see a vehicle you are interested in just look at sellers other items and if it shows a random selection of vehicles(can be 100's or 1000's) with different backgrounds then it's a scam
