You can self certify for 7 days. After that you should have called work to say you were now well but off duty. As you didn't, you will have to apologise and hope they accept you made a mistake, otherwise they will most likely call it unauthorised absence.

I was going to say the same and agree. However, soem workplaces have jobsworth and insist on a sick note in circumstances like this and GP may charge for the note.

    Extracts from gov.uk relating to sick leave;

Employees must give their employer a doctor’s ‘fit note’ (sometimes called a ‘sick note’) if they’re off sick for more than 7 days in a row (including non-working days).

    Self-certification
Employers can also ask employees to fill in a form when they return to work to confirm they’ve been off sick for up to 7 days. This is called ‘self-certification’. Employers usually provide their own version of this form.

And in this case, they weren't off sick for more than 7 days.

I don't know, it does plainly mention that this includes non-working days but then the deciding factor would be whether the person declares themselves sick on any given day? Else surely it could just be abused by people having miraculous recoveries and being un-sick on every non-working day thus always avoiding the need for a doctors note? But then flip side, what if you're sick for one day just before a long period of non-working - do you automatically require a sick note?

I'd have thought that if this was taken by the letter by an unscrupulous employer, the OP may be required to submit a doctors note.

It's all up to how each employer's discretion and how they interpret it I guess. I worry the OP is abusing sick leave from his thread history.

When did you tell them you were fit for work?

If we haven't informed them we are fit on our rotaed days off (following sick leave) then it is assumed we are sick until we say otherwise
  • what are rest days? I have never heard of them, is it an entitlement you are allowed (all companies or just the ones that give it)?

I mean this is my days off
mon - work, tuesday - work, wednesday - work, thursday - tuesday days off, and wednesday - work again

well yes, just looks like I have no right to be sick, that is the case, and this is not only with sickness, its with everything. National racism is the reason of all that, but i don't wanna bring this up.

I can see why you have such a problem with this when you fail to answer simple questions. It seems to be a problem of your own making.

    Can you confirm -
Monday, first day sick - you called hr/manager to register off sick.
Tues, wed, Thurs, - off sick still, (called in each day if required).
Friday, first day well, called in work to inform and book off sick.

    Is this right?
