It's going to be difficult to prove now due to passage of time, they can argue over the little details like how come you didn't notice sooner or why did you leave him un attended.

The obvious response to that would be "I didn't realise you were going to send a thief to work on my car"

At no point did the OP say they were speaking to the insurer directly.

So Ingenie are not the insurer? I must be mis-reading their website then.

all is not lost and you should put it down to experience rather than making a drama that needlessly risks raising your insurance premiums

these people see loose change as one of the perks of a boring job and if anybody carelessly leaves stuff around its fair play. Could have been worse and they grabbed your Eagles tapes!

Because the daughter didn't have the time? Maybe the daughter doesn't like phoning people. Maybe the daughter has a cold and has lost her voice.

What difference does that make? Why do you care?

More likely this is helicopter parenting at it's worst, but hey ho
  • Its not just coins...

When younger I had a mk2 SRI cavalier which I wrote off. Was asked a few days later to come and grab any personal effects as the car was being written off.

Got my cassettes etc out but someone from the dealership had already helped themselves to the 4 big 12 inch speakers mounted in the back!

Not really the point is it?

He was an engineer supplied by the insurance company. He shouldn't steal from their customers and shouldn't need to be supervised.

Do you supervise the engineers when you take your car into the garage for a service?

No I dont, but I wouldnt leave anything in the car of value and would remove £20 in cash

You should be able to leave valuables in a car when it's in for service, just like you should be able to leave your front door unlocked when you go out. You should be able to, but you don't.

Also, I am not comfortable with putting temptation in people's way. Some of us are weak, and only manage to lead blameless lives because we have never really been tempted. A friend of my mother's used to have cleaning ladies in her house, and used to test their honesty by leaving small change and sometimes larger notes about the place, so she could sack them if anything went missing. I always thought that was a rotten thing to do.

I keep a couple of pound coins in the car for supermarket trolleys and the like, but anything more than that would get removed if someone else had access to the car. No room for doubt then.

Sounds more like supportive parenting to me.

I also have a pot of change in my car & haven't ever taken it out when the car is being serviced / worked on.

Life really is too short & if someone did lift a few quid then hopefully Karma would sort them out next time they go for a poo. :-)
Was it really "everybody" that was Kung Fu fighting ???
