Engineer stole from car

My daughter recently had a black box fitted to her car.

She didn't drive it for a few days but when she did, she found that the small change (parking money) had been taken from a covered container in the front of the car.

It's only around £20 but it's the fact someone would steal from her that's getting to me. I called Ingenie who promised to call me back but they haven't.

I did consider that the engineer may have left the car unlocked and someone else took the money but, there were a couple of other items in the car that would have been easy for a thief to take had that been the case.

It seems stupid to call the police as it's a small amount and they won't do anything anyway. I was sure that at a minimum the insurance company would want to know it was going on.

Surely your daughter should be supervising anyone in her vehicle / removing valuables from the vehicle when not in her possession?

Twenty quid in "small change" for parking...?

The insurer subcontract the work to a national fitting company.
The fitting company almost certainly subcontract to local fitters.
  • Not really the point is it?

He was an engineer supplied by the insurance company. He shouldn't steal from their customers and shouldn't need to be supervised.

Do you supervise the engineers when you take your car into the garage for a service?

What evidence are you going to offer when they ask for it?

It's going to be difficult to prove now due to passage of time, they can argue over the little details like how come you didn't notice sooner or why did you leave him un attended.

If the insurers are worth anything they will apologise to you're daughter, and offer something In way of a goodwill, because on balance of probabilities, it was the engineer who took it.

The may look into it in the back ground and tell his boss and he'll get a ticking off for it most likely, even if nothing is offered back to your daughter. It's a life lesson not to leave valuables in your car.
  • I know I can't prove anything but can say with a good deal of confidence that the engineer stole the money. I suppose you don't expect an insurance company representative to steal from you and you shouldn't really have to hide everything away in those circumstances.

Just really wanted the insurance company to know it was happening but they don't seem to care. Maybe a little twittering would draw more of their attention to it!

Oh, and don't forget the insurer shouldn't even be talking to you...
  • Passive aggressive comments are really unnecessary.

It's not passive-aggressive. It's a simple statement of fact. The insurer should not be dealing with anybody but their customer - the policyholder.

Your daughter's car, your daughter's policy, I presume?
  • What's the issue that she has £20 in change in her car? It's just change she throws into a pot which she doesn't need so it's there for parking.

Does it really matter that the insurance company speak to me? It's about getting the matter resolved, not pointing out all the minor irrelevant objections to my question.

    Jeez. Get a life.
