Thought I'de try 1 hour approx with electric fire tonight.
Having been used to keeping use minimum when SP were electric providers.
No idea what to expect cost wise via Sse.
One of those fireplace pretend flame fires.
1 power button+ 1and11 power level switches.
I've only ever used level1 power which is nice enough for living room.
Is it a simple case of total of units I use to try to estimate cost.
What I'm trying to avoid is+100's range for monthly DD which is averaging £75 per month since storage heating was switched on a few weeks earlier.

Mser's carevto estimate cost per hour without knowing power rating of my fire.

What are you paying per unit ?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Without the rating of the fire it is impossible to say accurately but as the majority are 1kW per bar then most likely, at your day rate, 3 minutes for just under 1p or 19p per hour per bar.

Thanks I honestly don't know rating, maybe I'll search to get an idea
Very simple though working electric fire.
It doen't have old school 'bars'
It has fake coal and lights up flame effect.
Best estimate I had was possibly 2K @30P/min.

A 1 bar fire, which is 1kW uses 1 unit per hour. Put it in position 11 then it uses 2 units per hour so 19p or 38p per hour inc VAT depending on where you put that switch. Looking at that picture the element is wire wrapped around heat resistant spacers, a traditional "bar" is wire wrapped around a ceramic rod, effectively the same thing but this design is cheaper to produce.

Thats a fan heater hidden behind a traditional looking fire. Most are 1 or 2 Kw depending on settings.

If it plugs in to a wall socket a plug in monitor will tell you exactly what it uses.

Basically its a posh fan heater with two 1kw elements and no thermosat.

It will cost 19p/hour on setting one and 38p/hour on setting two
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers

    Thanks all advice
    1. My fire does plug into wall socket and probably works with a fan.
    2. Whilst I don't have any knowledge other than my electric bills from 2009 from SP until SSE earlier 2018.
I would be amazed if cost is only 19p per hour 1 or 38p 2 I did try setting 2 when I moved in either 2009 or 2010-during one of the freezing cold winters and it did heat up my living room, though I was getting considerably higher bills for a month or 2 after Dec which I though was the fire.
Take quoted costs seem rather low or inexpensive, though if its a decent estimation I'll use fir a lot more if the ice cold weather returns.
Such a mild year 2018 I suppose there's still time for freezing winter.

Perhaps you are too focused on the cost of using an electric fire for one hour. You mentioned that you had storage heaters switched on. Each of those will be on 7 hours a night, so a 2kW storage heater has the potential to cost you £45 per month during the winter. This is more significant than the £6 per month for an hours use of the electric fire each day.
