Hiya,
After watching Martin on LK Today on Wednesday - it got me thinking ........... 'back in the day' when we owed 20k it was blue and white stripes all the way for us and then as we got out of debt - it was more walkers, McVities etc and just last week I spent nearly £90 on what my husband called 'nothing' - this week I spent £40 on blue and white stripes and husband is a happy man - the fridge if packed out - he loves to pick from the fridge0 -
I always seem to buy mid-range ie. tesco own (not value) certain things we caan't like, soap, washing powder etc. as dh has vry sensitive skin and comes out in rashes, also tea and coffee can't be substituted. But all tinned, frozen and chilled is tesco's.

Think its a good idea!We usually go to Tescos now but went back to Asda last week and actually bought several smartprice items(unheard off or me!) Got plain and SR flour, digestive biscuits 22p a pack and we all loved them and chocolate covered digestive boys which the others all like!Shopping stillcame to £85 though!!! (that does include nappies and baby wipes though)And also bought smartprice bananasnothing wrong with them, pears which 5yr old havseaten the wholepackbut 1 and smartprice apples whichare the best we've tasted and when i looked at the packaging it said they were braeburns!Ohand a big bag of carrots too. Will try and keepit up but i admit i found it disheartening the bill was still so huge lol!grocery challenge jan 17 £ / 350.000

Weve started in the last couple of weeks and I really get off on seeing how much we have saved compared to the brands we would have bought. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Hi just to update. Sent hubby out to Asda yesterday(sorry but i hate Asda!),did small list(for us, got lots in freezer though)and it only came to %34.73!!!That includes two tins of heroes at£9 for xmaspressies too so if we hadn't got those it would have been £25 then whatever basic we need later in the week! We boughtmore smartprice than ever before:
Spuds 73p
apples (braeburns!) 77p
pears(rocha) 89p
nanas lots 98p
big bag carrots58p
crumpets20p (made myself try them today and they are fine - ingredients same as asdas other label!)
eggs 15 £1.25 (rather buy free range though)
diggy bics 22p
noodles 8p
teabags 32p (for hubby as i dont drink this when pregnant but he likes it thoughi don't like the smell of it!)
rim block 89p
chicken brst £3.89
fishfingers 24p
bleach 28p
deodorant 35p
loo roll £1.12p(though am not happy about this as its awful dusty stuff)
choc bar 23p (actually prefer it to asdas own middle brand)
alsogot normalasda stuff:
4 fresh juices, sprouts, cauli, mushrooms, onions, pepper, courgette, brown loaf, oxo cubes, kitchen roll(cheapest),milkand the two tins of chocolate!Think it was a good weeks shop!! This is for2adults and two young children. Thanksmumzy for starting this idea or tbh i wouldn't have tried it and would have ended up spending more like £70 as usual!!!grocery challenge jan 17 £ / 350.000 -
we use mostly all own brands from Asda - they are all fine so far but there's just a couple of things we wont compromise on which is Douwe egberts coffee(stock up when on BOGOF) and yorkshire teabags.Everything else we buy is own brand. Like someone suggested we put the cereal in storage boxes - not had any complaints so far! biscuits - choccy digestives at 23p a packet go in a biscuit barrell - wouldnt pay over a quid for Mcvities:eek: -
Cooking from scratch also saves lots of money!Do what you love :happyhear0 -
got smartprice courgettes as well got three in pack they are huge!Just one of them helped towards making five meals for thefreezer! I quite like this smartprice shopping!grocery challenge jan 17 £ / 350.000
