Perhaps your time is not valuable to you. Mine is valuable to me. Cex have stolen from me, not only the money I spent on the item, but all the time and energy trying to put things right.
  • You paid £115 for a laptop with a 3 year guarantee?

Just write to them. Recap when you bought it, when the faulty developed, that you offered for them to repair it, but that they refused and so you are now rejecting the item, then give them 14 days to refund you.

If, after 14 days, you haven't been refunded, then contact your bank to initiate a charge back.

You can probably find Cex's contact details here

If you continue to have problems after that, come back here.

Can I suggest that you use the Quote button as nobody can be certain which posts you are replying to.
  • While I appreciate it was a difficult situation, I think perhaps your expectations were a little high. If I paid £115 for a laptop, I wouldn't be overly surprised if it stopped working 3 months later. You do tend to get what you paid for. I find a 3 year guarantee quite difficult to believe in.., are you sure it had that?

I always avoid buying laptops anyway, even new good ones seem problematic and not as easy to repair as pcs. I use smartphones while on the go and then transfer items to my pc when I get home.

I understand that £115 is cheap for a laptop but, depending on the model, it is not that cheap for second hand, with cosmetic damage.

For example, a new Lenovo 120S is currently £179 new from various retailers, but £110 second hand on Cex.
  • Since the Op obviously cannot determine who he or she is replying to here on the forum , I think it also likely that the confusion in the shop is also down to him or her.

    Sorry.
  • Thanks for your help Streaky Bacon I will try your advice and get back.
moneyineptitude, or whatever your name is, I do not appreciate being talked about as if I am not here. The confusion is not generated by me but the bad web design of the forum which tells me I can login and do a quick reply to a post and then sends me back to the forums page instead of the actual topic, having to find my own way back does not also leave me with time to check whether the ineptitude of the design or the member leaves them confused about my reply. You've done nothing to help in any case.

Use the quote button at the bottom of the post, then what has happened in my post will happen in yours and it will be clear who you are replying to

But I might also add it is the "ineptitude" of the members that you are looking for, or you wouldnt be posting here for advice. Maybe a bit of politeness for the people who have gone out of their way to reply to you wouldnt go amiss

To be fair to the OP, they only directed the 'ineptitude' at one particular poster, who only seemed to be antagonising the OP.
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.
