  • Is she a working strain cocker? My friend breeds them and one of her girls didn't have her first season until very very late (around 2 years of age). Her other !!!!!es also only had a season once a year as well.

I would definitely recommend getting her spayed. I have pictures of my dog when we brought her home and showing healing progress of the surgery site if anybody is really interested :o:p:o

Some b*tches have hidden seasons, and you wouldn't know unless you were really looking for it, especially for the first season or two. Some produce virtually no blood, and if they keep themselves clean you might never see any. The swelling in that area can be a lot less than people expect, and you wouldn't always notice it, especially if they are long haired or fluffy.

So it's possible she's already had one and you just didn't know about it.

On the other hand some b*tches just never have a season, they can have gynae problems, just like people can.

If you intend to get her spayed anyway, there's no major advantage in waiting now, so speak to your vet about it.

Definitely spay and don't wait - hidden seasons are just that :) Hidden :rotfl: seriously they can be very hard to spot even for vets :)
We adopted out dog at just about a year old and she was in season when we got her (very against RSPCA rules to home whilst in season but she has severe kennel stress as well as other problems) and as soon as she had finished her season we waited the required amount of time waiting for nature to take it's course and swelling to go back down... and in she went to be snipped! Never regretted it for a second!

We got our 1 year old staff neutered at 4 months. Before her first season. There seemed to be so many debates as to when to do it. But she seems okay. Still looks puppy like though, not sure if that's due to being spayed early or that she just hasn't grown up yet!
