This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning all
Here we go again with the not sleeping went to bed at 9pm wide awake at 12.30am I have never had insomnia before so am finding this a bit stressful to be honest will try to stay up later tonight maybe that will help
Dumpling I hope things are improving DS and DH clash horribly and it leaves my nerves in tatters when it does occur try to distance yourself and just carry on as normal hard I know but you need to be the voice of reason

Good morning everyone :santa2:
Thank you Bella for starting us off, looks like we are keeping the same hours as I was also up at 12.30 after going to bed at 10. It is exhausting but at least I can have a bit of a nana nap in the day.
An uneasy truce has settled between Lilly and Steve in as much as they are actively avoiding each other but when they do come into contact they are civil. I, like many of you, had lots of arguments with my parents when I was growing up and although my father is not with us any more, I have a sort of relationship with my mum in that I am fond of her but we rarely speak to each other. I did not want this for my children as I passionately adore each of them and I know they love me lots too. I hope Steve and Lilly can mend their relationship before it is too late. Families are complicated things aren't they.
Not sure if the grandchildren are appearing for breakfast this morning but i know they are here for dinner tomorrow so I will have to put on my thinking cap for what to feed us all. TA's bolognese bake sounds like a winner especially as I have some garlic bread to use up in the fridge. Steve isn't keen on pasta though so I will get him something else.
Poor Lilly has just come downstairs with a wretched toothache. She has a root canal booked on the 20th but that is a long time to wait while you are in pain. I will go and see if I can be of any help so I will love you and leave you. Take care xx0 -
Morning All
Not quite as cold here this morning, don't think I will need to de-ice the car. Yesterday was so cold all day but the sun did shine for a while.
I went and bought my last Christmas present yesterday which I wrapped when I got home so feeling very proud of myself! I also bought a baby gift for my hairdresser, she had a baby a couple of weeks ago and is just working the next couple of weeks as it's her busiest time. She works for herself so all the pennies count.
Glad things have calmed down in your house dumpling, you're right, families are difficult.
Sorry so many of you are not sleeping well, I nearly feel guilty that I've had a good few nights in a row!
Work is really mad at the moment, so much going on and staff dropping like flies with various ailments, makes for an interesting day at least.
Enjoy Tuesday if you can, take care. XX0 -
Good morning everyone, well the baby that was due on Christmas Day couldn't wait for Santa and arrived yesterday... Mum, Dad and the bairn are all fine and she's a good weight and feeding well already. I'm just glad I don't have another two weeks and know that all is well, a healthy wee granddaughter the best early Christmas present ever
I feel like a helium balloon with sheer relief. Having a first baby at 40 is not without risk and there had been complications. However the medical care was excellent and the outcome was the best!
Today I have a Christmas lunch to attend, so no prizes for my main topic of conversation... normal service will be resumed next week!
Wishing everyone the best day possible, with hugs for poorlies, carers and concerned. Not too surprising that the good news has made me nocturnal too!! xxx0 -
Congratulations WeeMidgie!0

Morning everyone
bellabella - thanks for starting us off x
Weemidgie - congratulations on the new arrival x
Hugs to those that want/need one x Sorry to hear so many of us are not sleeping x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Very dark and cold here this morning.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.
Dinner last night was gammon, egg, chips/jacket potato, peas/veg, choc birthday cake for dessert. Tonight we're having HM chicken, bacon and mushroom pie, mash, peas and gravy. I should be going to fat club but can't get in the right head space at the moment, so I'm being reasonably good and will just start again in the New Year.
Yesterday as expected was somewhat manic, we had telephone calls stacked all day and the face to face contact was busy as well, made worse by the lack of staff we have been restructured to, ridiculous callers waiting 40+ minutes to speak to someone. The day did flash by. We'll see what today brings.
Keep safe and well x

AAAAARGH my turn to lose a long post this morning!! Nothing vital, just a load of waffle so a brief resume this time! Huge congratulations to the besotted new grandma!!
Meeting my oldest friend for coffee (and no doubt mince pies) this morning. Our Xmas gifts to exchange for ourselves and our DGC - we both give them all money, it's the easiest option!
I have a Tivo box to pick up on click 'n collect whilst out. Virgin wanted £50 to deliver and set up or I could pick up and set up myself for nothing. A no brainer there!
The performing DGDs are at school this morning then over to the Alhambra for the matinee performance. Back to their other grans for tea and sleepover, with eldest DGD, whilst DD is back over to the Alhambra to chaperone for the evening performance. Panto season is such a busy time for her.
I am hoping I might feel up to putting up some decs this afternoon. Just a small fibre optic tree which we got last year after deciding it was too much hassle buying and decorating a real tree! I am not going to bother with all the light up ornaments etc either, just a token gesture of here and there. unless I get carried away!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Especially HOLLY, POPPY and TAFF. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all
Congrats to Granny Weemidgie what lovely news xx
Cold here again this morning I think there may be frost, I have a courtesy car atm as mine has gone in to go the paintwork repairs for all the scratches auto glass caused, it will be up to three days and meanwhile I have the smallest car in the world it feels a bit like being on a roller skate as you are driving along and I don't feel 100% safe so roll on getting mine back !
Clients Christmas lunch today so they will all be manic and over excited so its going to be a fun day !
Will make a few more mince pies at work today Im getting sick of the site of them TBH but they are selling well !!
Not sure about dinner tonight but I think there is a quiche and some new pots in there with some salad or maybe burgers and chips
TA im sure no one will expect full on Christmas from you so just do what you can and don't worry about it xx
Hugs to Holly if you are reading this do try and pop in and say hello, we are all behind you xx
Right best get on have good days all xx0 -
Good morning all. It doesn't seem frosty this morning, cold though.
Congratulations Wee Midgie, glad baby's here and all is well. My DD was 37 when she had her first, and 42 when she had her second. I was 31 when I had my third and felt old at the ante natal clinic - we seemed to have babies younger then, in the olden days!! That youngest will be 40 next year.
Glad things have calmed down a bit Dumpling, hope it gets resolved.
I wrote out the cards last night, so that's another job jobbed. DH did labels on the computer for the envelopes, that's a big help. I'll post them this morning on my way to Tai Chi. It will be our last session till the New Year
I'll have to get out shopping this week, there's a parcel to pick up from a shop in Newcastle and stocking fillers for the two youngest DGC to buy, We send money via the internet to the Oz DGC, so that's to be done I'm woefully behind this year.
Glad to see you posting TA, you're doing really well.
Tru, I love your Christmas songs and carols, thank you,
Bella, I'll join you on Mount Ironmore - I know from bitter experience if I don't get it done it'll breed overnight and there'll be a pile as big as me.
Still haven't read back over the time I was away, I'll do it today
Thinking of the sad and poorly today
Take care folks0
