Wow....
Some of these responses are unbelievable. The OP did not ask to be judged. He asked a straight forward question and even acknowledged that the question might be unpalatable to some. He rejected a house with garage on the basis that his would be next door to a non-HA home. The moral values are of No importance here.
Unfortunately there are more details required. But ultimately I don't see how it will benefit the OP to pursue this.
So was the house next door earmarked for HA or private sale at the time that you exchanged contracts?
Who has lived there for the past 2 years?
Most importantly, what do you have in writing about next door.
Oh, I strongly disagree with calling this is "vile". Everyone is entitled to make choices, be it about their home, Kids school etc.
And I strongly disagree with the poster who thought that next door should never be allowed to become HA owned. There is no way that this would have been written into a sale agreement.
I am not a lawyer or EA. This is just my view....0 -

This question has gone unanswered so I think we can conclude
- The OP has nothing official in writing e.g. via their solicitor
- Was told something by a sales agent that holds no weight, could not have been guaranteed and is totally unprovable.0 -

Perhaps if people don't want opinions, they go and get paid advice. He rejected a house with garage on the basis that his would be next door to a non-HA home. The moral values are of No importance here. - indeed not. But the only way to guarantee that long term is to buy the neighbouring property aswell
Unfortunately there are more details required. But ultimately I don't see how it will benefit the OP to pursue this. - I agree. the OP has no case
So was the house next door earmarked for HA or private sale at the time that you exchanged contracts? - it's largely irrelevant. Internal and commercially sensitive information wont ever come to light
Who has lived there for the past 2 years? - that is actually irrelevant
Most importantly, what do you have in writing about next door. - whatever it is, is basically toilet paper.
Oh, I strongly disagree with calling this is "vile". Everyone is entitled to make choices, be it about their home, Kids school etc. - indeed. Their homes. not their neighbours. Not the other kids at the school. etc.
And I strongly disagree with the poster who thought that next door should never be allowed to become HA owned. There is no way that this would have been written into a sale agreement. - exactly

So your moral opinion is ok, but not others?0 -

First of all I never once stated that I believe myself to be above anyone in a housing association home. While I lived in one and no longer do, a lot of my family still do!
It was from my own personal experiences and from what some of my family still experience, also what others in the area have said that formed my true representation of what could be. As hard as it is to hear it's the fact and unless you've had the experiences then gtfo.
I also never said that I didn't expect there to be any, we chose the house because it wasn't directly next door! Sorry to have upset some of the most basic among you with a simple question, it clearly hit home.
Please tell me how being middle class is also a bad thing, so what if your neighbour bought her ex ha home and decided to isolate themselves. Your judgement of them is as bad as the judgement you believe they have been directing at you, pretty insecure but I take your wishes of bad fortune and throw them back at you a million times you simple knave!
I have relatives that are both Doctors, live in a very well heeled area in a beautiful Victorian townhouse, the basement section of which is a separate flat, inhabited by a former University academic.
He has made their life a nightmare. Not an expert, but like pensions, tax questions and giving guidance. There is no substitute for tailored financial advice.0 -

The OP set themselves up to be judged. They asked an unpalatable question, then threw a hissy fit when they got some unpalatable answers in response.
The only moral to this tale (rather than the one you're virtue signalling) is not to ask a question on a public forum if you're not willing to accept a whole range of answers, including those which you don't want to hear.0 -
It could have been worse . .
I could have moved in next door

I have visions of the signs you used to see in guest houses in the 60s... No blacks, no Irish, no dogs...0

I don't think you have a leg to stand on, but I can understand why you're annoyed. I know people say not all HA areas are the same...but in my experience they are. In our neighboring development, all of the issues in that area is down to the residents of one street, which is the only HA street on the development (go figure!) They spray paint houses, harass people on the street its awful, the children from that street are also the only ones ever seen or caught causing issues too.
Where I lived previously, you could tell the HA roads by just looking at them, mess everywhere, syringes and other drug paraphernalia left at the side of roads or in the visitor car parking bays.
There are good and bad in all aspects of life, but there seems to be more bad than good with some (HA and travelers spring to mind!)0 -
Here's an idea OP - you could buy next door and then can choose who lives next to you.
You could get lucky and it could be someone as nice as you or your family moving into the HA home giving you no issues at all.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
Comms69.
I actually agree with the responses you made to my post above.
I like the 'toilet roll' one. That's a good way of putting it.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Of course it's an open forum. I just don't feel it needed to take the turn that it did. Good day.0
