The UK is one of only five countries which met the UN's 0.7% foreign aid target last year with even Germany not reaching that target.

Lost of people object to that money being sent when there are people here that need it.

Also we sold bombs to some of the places we send foreign aid.

I'm not pushing any point of view, just saying we shouldn't be selective with the facts.

Says you being selective with the facts!

"Lots of people" don't matter until there's enough to change UK law which says how much we spend on foreign aid. The number of people objecting is nowhere near enough to even get a mention.

Because we give a country aid we shouldn't sell stuff, whether it's armaments or anything else? What a ridiculous argument. If someone doesn't like selective facts it might be a good idea not to try and substitute them with their own.

Not too sure that too much of this is particularly relevant to whether we are looking at an upcoming slowdown to the global economy.....

Nice try to start an interesting thread that doesn't disappear down the usual cul de sac anyway michaels!

How much money gets remitted home every year by migrant workers?

Home much do UK tourists spend on their travels?

Money travels freely these days. No control restrictions as was once the case.

    Including wages

As long as there's a minimum wage. There'll remain upward pressure from the bottom. Likewise employers pension contributions are increasing. Fairer distribution of profits seems equitable.

The UK will contribute to the slowdown. Interconnected world we live in.

I have nothing wrong with migrants settling here (as long as they are a net positive contributer to the economy). All i am suggesting is that this practice of importing low skilled workers (lets face it that is what refugees are), is keeping wages low particularly for the working class. It is no wonder we then have things like brexit.

I do worry however that many are not and will not be net contributers to our economy which means that it is the rest of us who have to pay for them.

Migrants contribute more than they take on net.
In my experience the refugees contribute more than their most vocal critics.

It's also pretty ignorant to assume because they are refugees they are unskilled. Syria is a warzone; lawyers/doctors/scientists are just as likely to want to leave as binmen, but likely more able to afford to get away.

Do you have any direct/indirect experience of the refugees?

As you are a self confessed citizen of neither the UK nor the EU I wonder if you will be brave enough to honestly tell us your nationality

I confessed nothing of the sort, I'm afraid. I've stated before that I'm British but if you want to try and marginalize me for being a foreigner or untermensch then feel free. You'd still be wrong though :)

Cousin bought 2 businesses which employ mostly EE labour.

There is absolutely NO way these workers are net contributors. They are there because they are cheap, and so far, they don't complain too much.

He had to get rid of a couple because they weren't legit. You can't afford to be caught employing illegals. It's not worth it.

I read somewhere that you have to be in top 40% to be a net contributor how many migrants are in that category.
