Yes, I have to sort out my credit score now, by opening a credit card account and by closing one of all my accounts that are in good standing, but my actual point of the whole rant is don't go with Vodafone.

Looks like you don't understand credit ratings either.

    1) The fact you now have a wrecked credit file (cause by you, not Vodafone - it was your own self-inflicted wound) will make it hard to get a credit card in the first place - for many years. Applying for one may not help on your records either. Even if successful it ain't gonna make a massive impact.

    2) Closing existing accounts which are in good standing is the exact opposite of what you should do and makes no sense whatsoever - escpecially when talking about opening another credit account.

    3) Vodafone are a nightmare in many things (I should know from innumerable probles - all of which I sorted without getting into the mess you're now in) - but the self-inflicted credit wrecking could have happened on any network.

A credit score only exists in the mind of the credit rating agency that calculates it, then sells you the right to see it. Only you and the CRA ever see it.

What matters, is your credit history. AIUI, there is an outstanding amount of £85 that will appear as an amount outstanding. That is what future potential creditors will see, and the likelihood is, make a decision upon the fact that you, in the past, haven't paid all your bills.

It seems like I've left a review here on the wrong kind of forum. That is my mistake.

Looking for advice, what is your experience with accounts affecting your credit score? The problem being for me here is I can't switch energy providers, or from PAYG on energy, due to a low credit rating. I'm finding PAYG extortionate. I have tried USwitch but seems like my energy provider, British Gas, is already providing me with the cheapest tariff.

    Try:-

https://www.uswitch.com/mobiles/compare/no_credit_check_sim_only_deals/ for suggestions for sim only deals with poor credit rating.

For utilities (although you're already on a low tariff) your options are much more limited:-

This is not a review forum so much as a forum for people to find help with costs and money in general.
