Working Hard Debt Diary - Here goes

I know how you feel - it really is difficult to keep that "debtbusting" energy going all the time, yet when the numbers are "big" to say the least, we can't afford to take our eyes off the ball, can we!
Did you get the application in for that other job?Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Too true Hypno, taking your eye off the game for even a small while is where danger lurks. You are amazing with your energy and stamina with your kids sking etc etc.
I guess we need to remain focused for the rest of the year and hopefully we'll be sub £30k by then. If we are then from Jan 09 our financial situation becomes much more healthly as yougest DS starts school - no nursery fees and since eldest DD won't need A/School care no increase in those fees - plus I'm increasing my hours to 30pw so we should have a large wack to aim very firmly at the debts.
Yes I did the get the application in for the other job with a day to spare as well. I'm not entirely sure if I want it.......benefits are that's its as local as I can get (walk to work) and it will be a challenge and good CV fodder. Downsides are: money is fractionally more than I am on now (currently got a pay regrading is which is sucessful should give me a jump of 4% straight away) and type or organisation is notoriously difficult. I need to see if I get shortlised.....no doubt i'll have weeks of waiting.Working Hard to be Debt Free - one day :A soonDFW Long Hauler 74; Mortgage overpayments MFiT-2 challenger 100Total Nov07 £36000, Sep10 £1623:o:)0 -
Well, at least the application is in - you can't do any more than that at the moment.....decisions about actually taking the job can be made in due course if need be.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. 2nd attempt
Just working my way through the final few jobs from my weekend list! It would be nice to have a weekend without a long list of tasks.....
Just renewed my home insurance. I was looking forward to getting some cash back but after spending a while trawling through the comp sites and cashback sites I've plumpted for an option which knocks an amazing £135 off my renewal but with no cash back  . I could have gone for one that was the same price as my renewal but with £120 cashback but I thought that it was a more pratical and straightforward to go for the best price first off. Pleased with that!
Finally getting around to organsing the kids childcare for the holidays. How chilled is that with 2 weeks to go!
Just got a weeks worth of receipts to enter into the spending diary now. mind you its now offically 6 months old and still going strong.Working Hard to be Debt Free - one day :A soonDFW Long Hauler 74; Mortgage overpayments MFiT-2 challenger 100Total Nov07 £36000, Sep10 £1623:o:)0 -
We are in a similar debt situation as yourself. I think you do get hacked off with keep thinking do I need this and the children want things and its always no, I can't afford it. The thing that keeps me going is what to do with all that cash when it isn't being used on debts. Keep going you are doing so well.

Thanks for the comments lucielle.
I think you are right when you are constantly questionning what you are spending and why. Its hard with the children as well. I was talking to my Ds about what was happening in the holidays and she was so keen to go the childminders. I felt awful tas the reality is that using a club for most the day and my mum at either end is actually cheaper!
You've cleared a cracking amount of debt as well lucielle. How've you managed to do that and how long has it taken you?Working Hard to be Debt Free - one day :A soonDFW Long Hauler 74; Mortgage overpayments MFiT-2 challenger 100Total Nov07 £36000, Sep10 £1623:o:)0 -
We cashed in some bonds that I still feel guilty about as they were supposed to be for the children if they went to uni.

Don't feel guilty, lucielle, the sooner you get the debt cleared, the sooner you can help out the kids anyway.
Now, if you had cashed in the bonds to go on a spending spree, that would have been different.........!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
I would agree with hypno06 lucielle its about their long term future. Although I am sure other would agrue differently my view would be that clearing the debt sooner means that eventually you will have the disposable income (whats that!!) to save/pay for uni fees.
When OH was out of work for a few months the very last month we took money from the childrens savings account. Not a lot in the scheme of things but it helped us get through the month and utimately survive. We promised that when we've disposable income to spare (that word again) we'll put the money back and more but we've got to get there first.Working Hard to be Debt Free - one day :A soonDFW Long Hauler 74; Mortgage overpayments MFiT-2 challenger 100Total Nov07 £36000, Sep10 £1623:o:)0
