  • Light banter is very useful for reassuring patients with stress-related conditions, but my definition of "banter" with strangers does not include comments about kicking pets or erections during medical procedures.

    Precisely.

Nothing wrong with the traditional British "standbys" for comments - ie about the weather or the garden or admiring their pet (not indirectly threatening it) if one is seeking to build rapport.

I’ve never had a medic arrive solo, they travel in pairs by me. Odd.

They do. A lone paramedic arrived when my dad collapsed. He was as much use as a chocolate teapot and he ended up calling an emergency ambulance when he realised how sick my dad actually was.

They can be really useful, they carry drugs, defibrillators and other emergency gear. They can save lives they just can’t transport people to hospital.

This one sounds appalling though, and definitely unsuitable to be working alone in vulnerable people’s homes.

Saying that people had tried to report him and nothing had happened makes me think he was trying to deter you from reporting him.

Obviously, others have objected to his manner and you should also do so NOW.

How he acted was totally unacceptable and unprofessional.

    Dear OP,

Who did you report this incident to today and did they give you a timeline of what you may expect, ie, updates, outcomes, interview?
You are in a strong position as you have your ex as a witness.

Like some of the others have said, you need to report him as it may save others from distress.

I would report him. His behaviour sounds very unprofessional and inappropriate. I would have felt uncomfortable if someone made comments of that kind around me.

It is possible that he might excuse it as 'banter' but sexist and inappropriate comments aren't suddenly OK just because the persona making them tries to claim they were just joking, or trying to establish rapport.

I agree with the poster who said that his comments about others having complained is particularly concerning because it does suggest that he knows exactly what he is ding, and how inappropriate it is, and he's trying to head you off from making any report or complaint.

and if he was telling the truth, then it may well be that any additional complaints will tip the balance to letting his employer take action.

    Dear deannatrois

I hope you are well and have reported this incident. The bloke can't deny what he said as you have a witness, your ex. Please update and many are eager to find out what is happening and hope you are alright.

You have the support of many here and we are looking forward to the outcome which will be the firing of this bloke and you saving many others from a similar distress.

    Love

I hope you have reported the guy, OP.

At the very least he should not be working as a first responder, ie a lone paramedic who will be visiting women when they are vulnerable.

Talking about anyone, let alone a patient, in a sexual manner is totally inappropriate.

Its entirely up to the OP if she wishes to post further on the subject. Its personal and upsetting for her so we shouldn't be pushing for updates like this.

Deanna is a regular, and very helpful member of this forum. She also has an extremely busy life and she will comeback to update if, and when, she is good and ready.

Multiple posts encouraging her to update are a waste of everyone’s time, and are not helpful.
