I get these calls quite frequently, previously they came from 'your internet service provider' now they're coming from 'BT'.

I'd love to waste their time, but I'm far to worried that if I'd used the option 'press one to talk to an engineer', I might get charged three or more quid per minute.

    Exactly

This particular one is rife at the moment , I speak to customers daily who are receiving it and had it on my own home phone too.

If the OP doesn't want to screen their calls by forcing any numbers not on their contacts to screening (I like the free Sky version of truecall) then there really isn't a solution. Hopefully they feel better for the vent though.

If you are not doing anything then answer the call and waste their time.

Most of these scams originate in India after employees of WiPro sold BT and TalkTalk customer data a few years back. Now, any data they have will be out-of-date as both BT and TalkTalk have not only pulled out of providing customer services in India but also ceased their relationships with WiPro.

Virgin still have India based call centres

I get these type of calls and find them quite amusing I wind them up something chronic but that's not for everyone.

    No, it's not.
I have much better use for my time...
  • I had lots of these calls on my landline, they ring and ring off, A couple of weeks ago I kept the nice lady on the phone for thirty minutes while I dissuaded her about my ad blocker! I have not had one since!

Oh, and while I kept her busy, she could not rip someone else off, so please, if you can, keep them busy and waste their time!
  • Anyone else receiving phone calls in the form of a recorded message where a female with an American accent states:

"Your BT Internet connection will be terminated tonight/within 24 hrs/within 48 hrs. Press 1 to ....." and I always hang up at that point.

Clearly a variation on the usual computer/internet "problem" scams, but whereas they only phoned every 6 weeks, this new one happens 2 or 3 times a week.

BTW I do not have BT Internet.

Finally, I am not complaining about having to answer unwanted phone calls, so do not need replies extolling the virtues or Truecall or similar

me too get these calls regularly.
