Mrs G managed 90 kg yesterday. 100 kg in her sights.
Just hoping the wind doesn't change while she's pulling the funny faces.0 -
Ilona - be careful!! I never realised fish-feeding was a dangerous hobby before!! Glad you're feeling better.
Gloomendoom - OMG!! Amazing. My back's aching just watching her!
Robotrobo - are you a man or a machine!! Seriously impressive. What adjustments do you need to make as regards your disability?
Thinking about all the different activities you people do, I'm looking at branching out a bit in the New Year. I tried couch to 5k about 3 years ago, but the hip didn't like it one little bit - now that I'm much fitter than I was, I might try it again. Also there's a Park Run near us that I might look into. I can swim, but I've never been keen. Once I'm in the water, I enjoy it. It's just all the stuff that goes with it - the noise, the smell, the people, the verrucas... Will definitely up the amount of walking I do - and I agree with Ilona about walking with people. I tend to crack on a bit, and I actually find it more tiring if I have to slow my natural pace down to suit other people. I have a round walk that I do along the canal - it takes about 30 minutes (if I don't stop at the tea room...) - I think I might see how quickly I could run it!No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -

im fine in the water.
i have just enough bend in my right knee to cycle.
running is very painful , because my good side is takeing all the hammer from pounding lobsided, as one leg is shorter than the other, my right knee is rather large due to arthritus & my foot is the same.
all because a car ran me down from behind at 60 mph.
i still have to much time spent in the chair, but i try my best.0 -

Crumbs. That doesn't sound good at all. How long ago? What I mean is, are you still in the recovery phase, or is it now a case of this is how it is?No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
I won a prize!! I came 15th out of 222 in the Festive Finisher competition at the gym. Which I was chuffed about, obviously - but I wasn't expecting a prize for it. Turns out that they were also doing 'spot prizes' for anyone who had entered the competition, regardless of finishing position - so I've just won a sports bra that my heart rate monitor can clip into. Whoop!
And I'm out (Out out!!) with the gym tonight for our Christmas do. I mentioned it to someone yesterday - "I'm out with gym tomorrow night". She said "I thought your husband was called John?" That's how rumours start...No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
Hope you all had a good Christmas!!
I headed back to the gym this evening for the first session after The Big Day. Quite quiet, but good fun. You could feel the mince pies evaporating!!
Now that OH is home all week, I'm going to start going every other day, rather than just 3 days a week. So - next session Saturday morning!
And then we'll be bracing ourselves for the January gym-goers.No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
Yes, the ones that book up all the classes and only go once. Shame so many females will only go if a friend accompanies them. Everyone needs to do it for themselves. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

Gym for me yesterday, I go once a week to a small private gym and the owner only closes it for main holiday days so I was able to go on my normal day.
Long story short, I became quite poorly, lost a shed load of weight (was in normal range BMI anyway) and lost all my muscle strength. I do resistance stuff, not cardio and with a few ups and downs from illness flares I am doing OK (will be 69 soon) my PT is brilliant and makes sure that I am moving forward, but watches that I don't aggravate the dodgy joints.
Trying hard to walk more also, I need to dig out wheelie bag so as to not use the bus so much.
No weight gained, it took me 2 years to get back up to a weight where I don't look scrawny, would like to stay at this level now.
Hope everyone had a good Christmas, happy New Year when it arrives:DThe best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -

Money-maker - I don't know if it's a female-only thing, but certainly at my gym there are three women that travel as a pack. To give them credit, they go more often than I do! I do wonder what would happen if one or other of them couldn't come for some reason.
In some ways I'm a bit envious - it might be nice to have someone to go with. But then, I wouldn't want to be tied to going when someone else wanted to go, or someone being offended if I went without them. I've been fairly nomadic all my life, and also had husbands who worked away a lot - so basically if I want to do something I have to just go and do it. If I sat around waiting for someone to do it with me, I wouldn't do anything. If you cut me open it would say 'independent' all the way through!!
I don't mind the January gym-goers. Our gym is fairly new (opened November 2017), and is doing well - but I know they'll be relying on the January lot to boost their profits for the year. Sessions are limited to a maximum of 24 people, and the way the sessions are structured everyone works on every cardio machine and there's no waiting for someone else to finish, so overcrowding shouldn't be an issue. And it's all booked online, so it's just a case of making sure you book early. By February they'll have thinned out a bit anyway!
Maddiemay - I'd like to take my metaphorical hat off to you for fighting your illnesses every step of the way, and congratulate you on finding a trainer who can work with you to help you be the best you can be. I hope that 2019 sees things improving for you. xxNo longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
Mrs G did six sessions in the four days leading up to Christmas Eve but then had an enforced break while our parents visited. She was back down there yesterday morning and again this morning. The gym is limited to a maximum of twelve people at any one time so an influx of post-festive porkers is likely to cause some frustration among the regulars, even if it is only short term. I believe the gym owner is currently looking for bigger premises.
Apparently, the very early morning sessions she favours are rarely fully booked and most popular with men. Luckily, she's not the sort of person feel uncomfortable being the only woman, otherwise, she would have to go to the later sessions that don't fit into our daily routine particularly well.0
