  • NAN We will settle on Margot and Darcey, sadly we don't need Alicia as eldest DGD has never been cut out to be a ballet dancer! She did go to classes when she was younger but the teacher said the best she could think to say about her was that she was enthusiastic! Graceful, dainty and light on her feet she wasn't and she soon got fed up!

When I finally prised myself off the sofa this morning the Friday Tidy was started in it's usual half hearted way and I was glad when SIL came and I had an excuse to knock off again. We had a good old natter, did much reminiscing and, of course, shed a few tears between us.

Have a nice evening folks if you can xx

  • nannywindow :) could be my hot cups of tea, or my melting moments biscuits or just the fact that our local fire lads are brilliant at following things up :) bearing in mind its almost 10 years since they came first to fit the alarms ( the batteries have a ten year life span ) and when they came last week it was because one was 'chirping' and they are sealed units so you can't turn the blooming things off.

Owing to my hearing loss they said they would fix a flashing one in my bedroom which has a vibrating pad that you fix under your pillow or bottom sheet its a good idea.

They also fitting another one in the sitting room so if they did go off at some point it would probably alert half the street as there is still new ones at the top and bottom of the stairs :) so I have four now in total .

The older fireman said they never mind how many they fit as its far better to come to see me while my house is safe than when it's on fire.

They were really nice chaps and one had a gadget that checks all of my white goods in the kitchen as well, to ensure they reach safety standards as well.

I feel very lucky that the Kent Fire and Rescue team are so on the ball (plus it was nice to chat to such pleasant young men )
They are so safety conscious about fires, especially when its an older person living alone.

We did have a good bit of banter whilst they drank their tea bless them and they told me to pass their phone numbers on to any of my friends who need a safety check. The service is free, and if it saves a life its worth its weight in gold.

At History this afternoon there were nine of us, and three of the people there said they hadn't got smoke alarms !! yet two of them had burglar alarms fitted they must feel their possessions are worth more than their lives. I certainly feel a lot safer now
