This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning all

Thanks for the thread RR and hugs to all those in need.

Busy day yesterday with two walks and two different therapists visiting, one of them stayed for two hours.

Another hospital trip today, let's hope there is somewhere to park this time it took CHS two days to recover from the last trip.

My tenant is posting on Facebook that she is being evected, I'm glad I live on a boat as I think this could turn nasty.

Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning hello.gif

Oh redruby that's great news, many congratulations to them! :D
Hope your car is sorted now.

Speky We took pics and emailed them to the HA, and kept copies of those but I will start to take regular photos too, thank you xx

Organza_Lace My neighbour is so selfish, I have so many stories about her I could fill a book :D I like trees in gardens, as long as they're safe, and don't like the idea of cutting down a healthy one. But if it's risking buildings then it has to go. If she'd planted it at the bottom of her garden we wouldn't have an issue with it, we would just keep it trimmed (well, lopped!) on our side and that would be that.

I much prefer the type of argument we recently had with our neighbours on the other side. Bumped into them at a stall at the victorian christmas market, there was an offer where if you spend £50 you get a free box of yankee candles. Neither of us were spending that much so they insisted on giving us the money for their things, we'd pay for it all together so we could have the freebies. We said we'd split the freebies later but they said they didn't want them. There were quite a few candles, almost £50 worth I think so when they popped round later to pick up their things, I told them to choose some to take. We argued “yes...no....yes....no” for a while and as they were walking out the door I shoved one under their noses and said smell this one, it's fab and they agreed, then took only one! I was quite cross with them, lol.

It was wet and windy all day again, our walk didn't last long because Scamp was bouncing all over the place (he always does in the wind) and when we turned a couple of corners, the wind blew his ears up straight, he closed his eyes and reversed back round the corner :D He was relieved to get home, I think.

It seems calmer today so hopefully we'll stay out a bit longer. I have to nip to the post office to pay a cheque in. I haven't had a cheque for so long that I had no paying in book or envelopes from my bank, I had to order them then wait for almost three weeks for them to arrive. Wish our local bank branch hadn't closed, the nearest is now 30 miles away. I was hoping to go to town but there's something I ordered to be delivered to the shop but it hasn't arrived there yet. I could and get the rest of my shopping but I hate going to town and don't want to have to go twice :D Not sure what to do today, if they weather's not too bad I'll chop more of those tree branches up.

Morning everyone

Now light, wind died down and dry underfoot, forecast says we should get some sun - we'll see.

redruby - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH and I enjoying first peaceful cuppas, I'm showered and dressed, just finished brekkie. I want to get to the SM first thing, as we then need to eat and then get ready for the funeral that we're going to. Both boys are coming too. Hoping it all goes ok as it can as there's some tension between some parts of the family - hoping everyone can hold it together and there's no issues. We'll see. We'll be having egg and bacon sandwiches once I'm back from shopping.

Yesterday I visited town early and did what was necessary, then DH and I went to visit his grandad, who was bright and cheeful, we stayed a while with him. Once we got home I sorted out and got the porch and kitchen sorted out after DH and DS2 had decorated, looks much better and is nearly back to normal.

Not sure what we will be eating later, but will organise whilst shopping this morning.

Keep safe and well x

• Good morning all

Thank you for starting us off redruby and congratulations to your DD and BF

Didn't get to sleep until the early hours and awake just before 6. How can I be so tired and not sleep?

Think DH is becoming more confused. Shopping with him was a nightmare. Think I will have to do main shop online in future. Might not seem much but another thing in life gone.

Hopefully no rain today so wm will go on, don't have a tumble drier so good to get things line dried.

Hope you all have a good day
If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.

Morning folks.

Still in Glasgow. Still got a dicky tummy though it is settling down. :j DM was really crabby yesterday so I mostly steered clear, just making cups of tea for her now and then. Mind you, one cup had to be reheated three times as she was too engrossed in a crossword.

Later this morning I'm going to visit a colleague who is in hospital here. She lives in Campbeltown so is a long way from home. I'll take the bus across as the weather looks to be awful again.

Tru - some banks allow cheque deposits via their mobile app. The Lloyds bank group ( including Halifax and Bank of Scotland) are amongst others. It's very easy and quick and saves trekking to a branch.

Today St Andrew's Day so I may have a wee nip later. :rotfl:

Happy Friday to all.

Going to get out of the house again today, woop, meetng a friend for lunch. Did nothing again yesterday.
Had a surprise night visit from the Little Prince. Fussed him for a bit then unceremoniously kicked him out. If he was our cat, letting him stay wouldn't be a problem, but i have no desire to step in accidents or be woken at 3 in the morning by a paw or worse in my face....
Now I just have to shower and find something to wear that doesn't look too trampy..

SO, probably because you're exhausted, hugs. Hope it goes well today nmlc. Hester, here's hoping it doesn't. Thanks nanny for the explanation too :) Wotcha Poppy

Happy Harbinger...

Morning all,
It’s a much clearer day today and it’s good to see the sunrise after a few days of cloud.
Not so much planned this morning, just a bit of housekeeping and there is a cake I want to make for the weekend but I have a riding lesson this afternoon so it will be interesting to see how my knee holds up. I start a new exercise class on Monday morning, organised by my physio, and designed to improve the strength in my knee.

Hope you start to feel better soon Gers, hugs to all other poorlies, take care folks x
• Good morning everyone, and a good St Andrew's Day to my compatriots here in Scotland and elsewhere.

Sewing group this morning, and afterwards a friend who's on a restricted eating regime has asked me to make use of some frozen chicken and duck which is off limits for her just now.

Then it'll be the Friday tidy and laundry. Bacon and cabbage for tea.

Thanks for mentioning scanning in cheques, Gers. I'm with BoS and didn't know this was possible and have a cheque needing paid in. The only local branch left is difficult to get to, so this would be a great solution.

Hugs to poorlies, carers and careworn. I hope you have the best day possible. xxx

Morning :)

Great sleep last night not having to get up and travel this morning seems to have relaxed my hyper active brain for a night. So the answer is to give up work then ....I wish

Tru I have a tree issue too and am looking into the best way to deal with it legally as the roots are now very close to the house. Its worrying. Looking forward to tomorrow ;)

redruby congratulations what lovely news :j outfit hunting now :)

silver_oldie Sending a big squidgy hug my friend.

So today I want to do all my invoicing and my friends invoices that I have fallen into doing for him. Best catch up on my emails too and have a go for some Dec work which is not easy. Work tonight as normal.

Other than that I want some chill time as my planner is nearly full so obvs that needs decluttering and then of course the obligatory Christmas movie. Also want to have a go at some Hairy Biker recipes. Tempted towards liver for today which to be fair is not new to me but wont need a shop. Really fancy the soups as well so may need a shop.

Anyway hope you all have a great Friday :A
• Morning everyone,

Happy St Andrew's Day to my fellow Scots. I've sauntered into work with my kilt and my "see you jimmy hat" on.

Yesterday after work, my 2 closest colleagues and I went to a pub round the corner for a beer and deliberately not talk about work, which was nice. They're good guys. Whilst I was there my phone rang and it was Charlene from the hotel and given what I knew, I simply told her I wanted to personally say thanks. As some of you said yesterday, showing appreciation can often mean a lot to people. So once again, you can all put your lovely hats away for now haha!

After the drink I quickly darted home to watch the football which took me till 10pm and bed time.

I've been to the gym this morning for the first time this week and I'll leave work sharp as my mum, step-dad and gran are coming up. Their ETA is 7pm and I need to get all the shopping in and a final tidy before they arrive, I should manage ok. My weekend will be spent with them mostly, which is nice and I'm really looking forward to it.

Hester - Oh dear, I hope it doesn't kick off.
SO - I can tell you feel upset by DH's increase in confusion. It is perhaps those unpleasant experiences which remind us to be thankful and grateful for the present.
Organaza - Hope you get a decent nap. Men...eh?! What are they like...
