Have you seen this? And would it have applied to your application ref. timing?

Possibly related, I'll try to call them (mobiles.co.uk) tomorrow morning and see if they can do anything about it.

I know, but this deal works out cheaper than the same phone and a 4GB contract over the same 2 years time.
  • Do you NEED an iPhone XR though?

My current Android phone has been with me for a bit over 4 years by now, there isn't any software updates anymore, so it stuck with Android Nougat. It's also very hard to find replacement parts for it nowadays. I want a new phone that can last as many years as that. iPhone has a good tracking history of both software update and replacement parts availability. iPhone 5S which is released 5 years ago still has the iOS 12 update, and it's not hard to buy a battery for it either. So overall I think an iPhone is a worthy investment, better than a £400 Android phone that lasts half of that time.
  • If you don’t NEED it then go with a cheaper phone.

If you NEED it then save up and buy it up front.

Honestly, I have the cash available to buy it up front, but it's cheaper to buy it via that contract because I will earn interest on the money before I pay it back. I've also checked the "iPhone Payments" option, but somehow the link on Apple website doesn't work.
  • Update:

I rang the mobiles.co.uk today morning, and guess what, they have TWO checks before they can proceed with an order: a credit check and an internal security check.

The one I've failed on is the internal security check, and the man on the phone could only tell me that they had also did a credit check on me, but he could not tell me whether I've passed the credit check, because their system doesn't keep the result when the order is canceled by them. And he also couldn't tell me why I've failed their internal security check, so I have no way to correct that. The only suggestion I've got from the man on the phone is to get the contract out by using a family member's name, but being an expat means my family members aren't in the UK.

Because of their intransparency, I'll think twice before I deal with any Carphone Warehouse group companies again in the future.

And I'll try go for the "iPhone Payments" if their website comes back, or wait for next year...

Thanks for the help from all of you who's posted in this thread. Thanks!
  • I failed a security check once once at CPW because I applied to Vodafone using my current address and they had me as a previous customer under an old address.

Your'e better off buying a new XR on gumtree, save £400-500 over the 24 months.
The greatest prediction of your future is your daily actions.
  • It's only cheap if you want to commit yourself to a 24 month contract (and having to deal with Vodafone).

Other than that you're better off buying the phone up-front and getting your own SIM with flexibility on choosing the provider etc
