New build- mice in the attic

Check for any small( very small) holes they can get in and block them. They are probably little field mice who have found a nice, snug place to spend the winter after the builder demolished their previous hime.0

We had field mice in our attic. They are so cute - think skinny hamsters with big ears and long tails - but sadly had to go in case they chewed through any wires.
We got rentokil in. They set traps in the attic, and found out how they had got in. In our case, it was through a hole under the door sill in the integral garage, and then into the cavity walls. He filled the gaps with expanding foam and, touch wood, we haven't had a problem since.
P.S. The rentokil chap/chapess won't balance on a bannister to get into the attic, so buy a decent stepladder before you call them out.0 -
I know exactly how all of our mice get in. They get carried in through the catflap.
Then the flippin' cat puts 'em down, a brief bit of squeek-bang-thump, and the mouse escapes or the cat gets distracted.0 -
Humane traps work well - just put a blob of peanut butter in the end. Our cat brings us live mice occasionally and we've always managed to trap and release without killing them.
We used one like this and it worked fine. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mousetrap-15x6x6cm-Reliable-humane-entrance/dp/B00DGPW644/ref=sr_1_12?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1543501527&sr=1-12&keywords=humane+mouse+trap0 -
Why wouldn't it be your responsibility? It's your house!0

To the OP, the main thing to be concerned about is the chewing of cables. If you find that your new electrics start tripping that might be why.0 -
It's not unknown for the flippin' animal to mislay them and get bored - only for them to be hiding under her...0

The poor bleedin' homeless mice were likely evicted from their happy rural home by the wicked builder when he chucked-up these speculative "new-build" boxes.
They just want to carry on living in their old home. That you've bought a pile of bricks 'n stuff on top of their old abode is but some form of kharma...
Best regards to all mice & voles, wherever they may be!
Mice? Wait till you get an urgent TXT from a tenant @ 10:30pm telling you there are RATS in your investment, his home (aye, happened to me..... Turned out to be rodents displaced by, you guessed it, builders very close by..).
Mice were here years before Homo Sapiens: Think they have a prior claim.......0 -
I managed to get rid of mice from my cellar by putting down traps, but they are really crafty and managed to get the bait. The best thing you can do is buy the blocks of poison, they don't kill them straight away and they love the taste so take them back to the nest and so they all eat them and die. They dehydrate them so they go to find water, not dying in your house and making it smell0
