Alternatively, the brother took his money (begrudgingly) from the sale of the house. Bu**ered off too Thailand, and has blown through all his money. His choices, his problem.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

I don't think anyone knows enough about the OP, his brother, their dispute and their relationship to criticise the OP's decision.

It is unusual for an overstayer to be jailed in Thailand, but not unheard of, normally something else would have happened for them to be jailed.

When you enter a Thai hospital they take your passport off you, and give back when they escort you to the 'payment desk' once you finish your treatment.

Does your brother have a Thai wife as he has been there so long? if so I would now guess she is next to Kin.

Do not sign anything, even if you understand it, unless you are happy about it.

You can get the form translated by the local thai restaurant, uni, FB ask for someone to help you.

The Thai ambassador and his first minister to the UK areok guys, they would be able to get their staff to advise you further.

Surely this is as good a time for reconciliation as you're ever going to get. You seem more worried about saving money then saving his life.

The medical costs are likely to be substantial, potentially requiring the OP to sell their home to cover. It's easy to say not to worry about money but when it's enough to destroy your life, for someone who is in all honesty a stranger then it's a significant issue.

Friends and associates are not next of kin. If you are his only surviving relative or indeed legal next of kin I think you're going to struggle with this.

It sounds desperately sad. Thai authorities do not take to kindly to people out staying thier welcome and prison is not unusual.

Forgive me for saying this but I find your approach a little worrying. From the outside (without knowing facts) it looks like he was first forced out of his home because you wanted to get your share of the inheritance, ......

Next of kin has no legal standing in this country. And quite possibly not in Thailand.

And with regards to the OP "forcing" the brother out of the house, if the parent had wanted things to happen differently they would have left a different will. The OP is entitled to their share, so why should they not get it.

I agree it's sad when families fall out but it dies generally take two to have an arguement.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I disagree. I actually find it a bit disturbing. My mother would turn in her grave if this were my brother and I were on here quibbling like this while he's dying in the Bangkok Hilton.

    On the surface it's shamefully.

Do you believe the hospital will fail to provide necessary care to keep him alive if the brother doesn't pay?

It doesn't look like the brother will be left to die without treatment. .., one assumes he is in a public hospital. Wish people would stop scare mongering before spending seconds googling like I did.

I'm glad I'm not your brother.

Im glad the OP isn't your brother as you sound selfish.

Parents home sold, brother has money to buy another or similar but no wanted to live rent/mortgage free.

Also it was words that said neber speak to me again.

He knew his visa expired and stayed anyway.

Just because you share the same parents doesnt mean you have to be besties.

Well, let your Mother turn in her grave.
You have no idea about the relationship between the OP and his brother.
I can 100% appreciate how the OP feels.
FTR - the OP is not quibbling.

'On the surface', it's not shameful.
    It's how the OP feels.
