Well today I went into town as I had a £10 Lidl voucher that needed using so I picked up a few basics like milk plus some extra tins . I also had a 7p off a litre fuel voucher so I decided to top up the car even though it was half full. There were queues at every pump at the filling station. Speaking to the young lad behind the counter he said everyone had been panic buying fuel due to the Ukrainian /Russian conflict and that it had been mental all day. Luckily I have topped up both my vehicles using my vouchers so they are fuelled and ready to go. It seems this conflict has got many "normal" people rattled rather than just those of the prepper fraternity or those who keep an eye on world events. Of course there are those who are going about their lives without even taking on board what is happening and any potential impacts it may have on them ( my stepmother springs very readily to mind!)
As for Kelly kettles I have heard good reports regarding their effectiveness at boiling water and cooking needing a lot less wood/fuel than open fires. I have not heard of any baking recipes but I am sure there are clever souls out there who have produced good results. From what I gather they are quite expensive.
My boys use a hobo stove made out of a couple of tin cans, one larger one to put the pan on and one smaller one slotted into the side for the twigs. They say it cooks really quickly using little fuel. I can not speak from experience as I have a camping stove.

DH has been saying there hasn't been any diesel at most of the garages for the last couple of days, local news said initially it was the deliveries delayed due to the storm however he was chatting to one garage today which did let him fill up the company vehicle with what little diesel that they had and they said people are just filling up and panicking although deliveries are coming they can't keep up with the demand and he's getting people calling from the next county to see if they have fuel. He said one local garage near by had put their fuel up to 175 just because they had fuel and other garages near didn't.7

A work colleague had similar difficulty getting diesel this morning, though did manage it in the end. I pass a garage on the way into work which advertises itself as 'last chance to fill up before the motorway' and it is currently charging 158.8 for diesel and 153.9 for petrol. Unsurprisingly, I never see anyone filling up there.February wins: Theatre tickets9

Just on the subject of bread (because it's one of the first things to disappear in a panic), when I've run out and want something instant, I use SR flour and salt mixed to a dough with water and form little bread buns to cook on top of the stove. I just use a little oil and a good frying pan and a splatter guard as a partial lid. It's amazing how they expand and fluff out. I also make dough with plain flour and spices like cumin seeds and roll out ultra thin so it gets crispy. Great with dips, stews, curries etc.

Added a bit more to the preps tonight: more tealights, dry shampoo (good if water is off), more cold and flu remedy. Having to self-isolate for a week with Covid I was very glad of my stocks and having flu remedy in. Do need to buy more night nurse though when I can get to a pharmacy.
Reading one of the prep groups on FB (very like this group - sensible and not sensational) someone mentioned dental hygiene / first aid. Thought I had added antibacterial mouthwash to the Mr M order but apparently not so will get that next week. Will order a replacement emergency filling repair kit - had to use one once and it was very good. Also need to order clove oil as I don't think I have any.11 -
