I'm breathing easier with my kitchen finished, my own appliances reinstalled and new ones (cooker and hob) installed and approved by the gas fitter (in the case of the hob). I kept imagining something bad might happen when all I had was the shell of a room, with the contents stacked in flatpacks in the other room :D
What I'm going to do now is make sure having preps doesn't impede me, and what helps me with that is that some of the old kitchen is now stacked in the shed, ready to be filled with rarely used but necessary items :)

  • I think things will ramp up considerably in the next couple of weeks, people will become very opinionated and the divides politically in the population will become more marked and aggressive with there being some very hard words between varying factions. I'm not looking forward to the European Elections which could be a real flash point so I want all my preps finished and in place by the 22nd of May at the latest. It may all just be a non event BUT I'm not taking any chances and we'll be doing a lot of staying out of public places and low profile at home for a few days after the 23rd too and see how it all pans out. I think there is an enormous amount of pent up anger in people which may lead to some disruptions I'd much rather not be caught up in.

There could well be a lot of noise and hot air in the next couple of weeks. But I think a lot of people will see this as a 'safe' poke in the eye, ie with no lasting day to day effects on everyday life, so it could all simmer down afterwards - hopefully
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Mrs LurcherWalker managed it, by carefully running down the supplies (& understandably agonising thereat), moving and resupplying with all reasonable promptness. It can be done, but the timing is a beast.

Or you moved with Everything & have to unpack it all. (The path I chose about 15 years ago & still haven't quite finished unpacking since but then I moved with toddlers...)

Have you the time & intestinal fortitude to Marie Kondo the place first?

I have done a lot of chucking out and there is a nice haul for the cs
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • I hope you're right Maryb, but I'm not entirely sure that I trust 'hope' which has not delivered it's promise many times in my life, I'd rather try and think ahead, plan ahead, be prepared for the eventualities I can think of (I know it's not possible to think of all eventualities) to keep us out of any unrest/disturbance that might result from people being so furiously angry, understandably so, with this current situation that they don't just use words to express their displeasure. People are volatile in stress situations they feel strongly about and the stresses are building towards the 23rd of May and the European elections and I'm concerned that may be a flash point that will set off protests, thinking back to times when riots have happened when the number of angry people outnumber the police and other peacekeepers. I fervently hope I'm wrong and all is peaceful but not going to leave anything to chance just in case I'm not!

Anyone in my household who wants me to drive them anywhere will as (a) my female relatives were very vigorous about getting me a vote at all & (b) I have taught the young that even if they do not vote they can still spoil their ballot, whereas an outbreak of CBA will be met with "you can't grumble you didn't vote".

Even son who has left home is likely to vote, largely as his voting station is the local scout hut. At a previous election he figured it is a Secret Ballot & so claimed to have voted UKIP & was startled to find a young lady he had hoped to catch the attention of kicked him soundly in the leg. I cheered this & he has realised Why the Ballot is Secret.

I don't think there'll a massive public uprising but we'll be hiking the Scouts Thursday night so their parents will have to make arrangements for their exhausted darlings which may cramp any pitchfork & burning brand style.

I dont vote at local or European elections. However the votes go ( at general election too) ,life still carries on,and we are headed by self- serving,power- seeking idiots. At local level certainly, they always have their own agenda.I could go on,but I have to go and do a proper day's work and pay my taxes to keep the aforementioned spouting tripe!
  • I hope there won't be any kind of problem but I have that little niggle of concern at the very back of my mind that people might just have reached the point of complete loss of tolerance with the whole political and Brexit related fiasco that seems to be getting more distant from the actual act of leaving the EU every single day. I really hope I'm worrying about nothing but just in case there are problems I'll make sure we've what we need for a while so I don't have to go out too often if there is a problem.

And on an altogether upbeat, happier note [Sarcasm Alert], I was riveted to read there is now a paediatric handbook for war zones.

I'm very glad there is this information freely downloadable within the community, I just really wish it wasn't necessary.

Says she going off to revise with her first aid app on the grounds that an awful lot of prepping isn't material but knowledge.
