Siebrie the RHS have a good lot of information on edible garden flowers and I have a wonderful book called WILD FOOD by ROGER PHILLIPS that is month by month with real photographs and recipes, most useful if you can find a copy first published by PAN BOOKS LTD in 1983 ISBN 0 330 28069 4. I also have a most useful book called THE GARDEN FORAGER by ADELE NOZEDAR published by SQUARE PEG ISBN 978-0-224-09889-2 which is a guide to edibles normally grown as decorative border plants and is useful for how to use things and recipe info. Hope that helps.0

A long time ago, Mrs LW , you kindly sent me a book on cheesemaking. Today Himself has found a cheesemaking kit plus press, moulds, thermometer etc etc and chemicals in a charity shop. The Original British Combined Cheese Making Kit apparently.
I think my future does not just include mozzarella, but sourcing the full cream milk he has texted to say he wants.
I will Not keep a goat - their sense of humour is too different to mine. (I'm told they curry OK.) There are sheep galore in the valley but catching them to milk them may be effortful. I expect there are dairy cattle about, I've just not heard them. Interesting times ahead!0 -
Hello prepping pals, been MIA again, but didn't realise how long since I last posted!!
Fell off the wagon, but normal service is more or less resumed now, and I'm slowly getting back to all my OS ways - missed you lot!
The littlies went back to school today, so I had today for me (yoga & a counselling session :rotfl:) and am running with friends later. Tomorrow is volunteer job day, finding or buying new potato bags to start the spuds this week, and sorting out seeds to be sowing for edibles. There are acres of ransomes in the woods near me, so I'm going to pick some and blanch/freeze, and some to use this week.
Going to read back a bit and see what I've missed - happy prepping!

Well found Mr. D for V, isn't it amazing just what DOES surface in charity shops from time to time, I find it's thought followed by it appearing some time in the future. I wish you many happy cheeses in your future xxx.0

I should commend a young Dig for taking effective action when hungry - his french bread pizza was sufficient for both himself and a bit for me!
He got towed to Huddersfield & promptly sought refuge in a games shop where he was happily & safely ensconced for an hour whilst his father & I raided the market. He had researched the library but thought it was too far away for convenience, but the games shop will now form part of his future planning!
Still working ion the cheese bit. A sufficiency of full fat milk is proving a matter of ferocious debate, bizarrely.0 -
Morning all. I need to get my prepping head on proper like as DH tells me he is handing in his notice today.Spend less now, work less later.0

You'll do OK lovey, you've a good sensible head on your shoulders and a common sense feet on the ground outlook on life, you'll more than manage and if you do have questions we'll hopefully be able to come up with answers and solutions to things between one or the other of us here. Good luck with 'get your heads round a new type of future' and you will be able to make it good and enjoy life and be happy!0

Dear heavens. This gives you how many days (hours?) before the income definitely stops?
Meters read?
Freezer recently defrosted & an accurate inventory of the contents logged?
Fridge likewise?
I found having a clear idea of what I had in hand meant I could face the numbers outgoing with a slightly calmer head. And that I made darn sure I had enough tea to see me through three village socials without a qualm, it being my preferred source of comfort to coffee chocolate & whiskey combined. What is DH's personal when anxious/stressed turn-to & have you got a goodly stash thereof?
As a newly elected Councillor (congratulations, by the Way!), is it undignified to ask how soon you will get paid? Will you have a mentor, or anyone you can trust, to ask? Just now every time you part with a penny piece, make sure you get a receipt. (So much easier to have rock solid professional accounts separate to private for a start.)
Fingers crossed this is a new opportunity for you both? In the short term it may have deeply ulp moments.0
