Good morning guys
Well my preps paid off a little this week. I woke up yesterday with a roaring sore throat and earache and actually had the appropriate medications so I didn’t need to wait for the chemist to open. Also plenty of food so I don’t need to shop until I’m ready.
On the down side the BBC news is full of news of climate change and sea levels rising. As I can see the sea from my window it’s a little unsettling but we’re on the first floor so if the water comes up this high we’re in real trouble anyway. Mother Nature is more powerful than any idiot government so perhaps it’s time to start doing some of what the clever people say rather than just ignoring them and pushing their ideas down the road.
Sorry for my grump
Anyway have a good day preppers

Hope you feel better soon, cuddlymarm, & to keep harping on about prepping skills, can you swim?
Much intrigued to see Sweden saying keep a stash of cash The Times runs a paywall but the teaser readsEveryone in Sweden has been urged to stockpile coins and banknotes in case the country’s move towards a cashless society leaves them without money in a cyber-crisis. In a move that will sound alarm bells in the UK, Sweden — one of the most advanced nations for digital payments — has warned that its people could be unable to buy anything if its computer networks were put out of action.
The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, an arm of the government, has sent guidance to every home telling residents to squirrel away “cash in small denominations” in case of emergencies ranging from power cuts or technology glitches to terrorism, cyber-attacks by a rogue government or war.0 -
Hi Dig for victory
I can’t swim, I was thrown in a swimming pool when I was little and it scared me. I’ve never learned but really must.
Interesting times when people are being told to squirrel away cash. We often have problems with our cash machines running out of cash on bank holidays around here. Rare I know but there are a few shops around here (including where I work that doesn’t take plastic) and it’s amazing how many people want to pay small amounts for food with card and haven’t even £1 with them.

And in further something that caught my eye in the papers "Don't feed the monster!", subtitle people who have stopped buying new clothes. (With some exceptions. Sports wear & bras are generally shrugged at as what can you do? Also who'd dare do something evil to a vintage bodice & then wear it to lift weights?)
There's even a lady who makes her own knickers, which strikes me as both admirable & a rather desperate response to not wanting to admit to Anyone (least of all yourself) that you have rounded out a bit over time.
(Mind, Himself is off on a underpants for the generously built chap - if anyone has links to patterns & suggestions for fabric/trim suppliers, all gratefully received! Mostly so I can blame someone else if he gets a custom tailored pair in something with a dinosaur print & a vivid trim. Me? Mischievous? Heck yes.)0 -
My OH still wears underpants in size Small as he is practically bum less, unlike me.
Prepping is all very well until you move house.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Mrs LurcherWalker managed it, by carefully running down the supplies (& understandably agonising thereat), moving and resupplying with all reasonable promptness. It can be done, but the timing is a beast.
Or you moved with Everything & have to unpack it all. (The path I chose about 15 years ago & still haven't quite finished unpacking since but then I moved with toddlers...)
Have you the time & intestinal fortitude to Marie Kondo the place first?0 -
We're back up to prepping capacity now, it's taken a few months and I still have to maintain stocks of flour as I seem to continually be down to one bag of plain and one of S/R as I always seem to be baking cakes for family visits but that's a blessing so I don't mind in the least. It's the emptiest feeling when you run down carefully aquired stocks, it is a vulnerable feeling and makes for a degree of unquiet mindedness but I pick up a couple of tins every time I go shopping for groceries, usually tomatoes, baked beans, veg or fruit and it takes surprisingly little time to walk into your store one day and realise you're back to normal again.0

Breathing space? Or biding time til better position (his perception) space? All the very best with not triggering the death in service benefits (if any). Have you read former MSE Andrea's post on redundancy planning & might it be of any help or comfort?
I looked, but Tesco had no "clubland promotion" loo roll. (Yet) They did have Pepsi Max by the 24 can slab for a fiver (asda had 30 for a tenner, so briefly felt smug) should anyone have awkward so & sos to keep in their preferred fizzy beverage.
They also had some barbeque tools in the promotion so son who enjoys burning food outside has been formally equipped & then warned to leave our kit safe indoors please... He toddled away from a screen full of detail on the Lymph system, crooning to them - I fear we may have disturbed his revision.0 -
I think he feels better about the stressful situation at work knowing that I fully support him if he does leave, that there are other options in life and that we will manage.
Today has been a write off for me with a migraine. At least I know there's enough stuff in so DH won't starve tonight!Spend less now, work less later.0
