Ref my post a while back about the singularly stupid switching-off of the existing landline phone system in 2025, this is worth a read by anybody daft enough to think that "they" won't leave people in a pickle ...

The only way we could check the northern power grid map the other weekend when our power was off was to change the settings on my mobile to 2g and even then it was very patchy.
TPTB obviously live in towns or cities where they are the priority when these things happen so the rest of us can....well, I'm too much of a lady to say what I really think.2025 Fashion on the ration

Thanks for the article Si_Clist. Another thing to add to my list of the things 'they' are doing to undermine life as we know it! Goverment, corporations etc really don't care much for those who live outside of cities/large towns and if you're over 60 they don't care much for those either. It's very concerning.8

I recently babysat my sister's dog in her house - where she no longer has a landline. And I didn't have a cellphone. I was entirely cut off. If there had been an emergency, I would have had no way to call for help. If they are doing away with land-lines, make sure anyone staying at your house has a working cellphone for emergencies. And keep several backup ways to keep your cell-phone charged.12

Eeeeee, when I were a lad the GPO ran the phones, the engineers drove khaki-coloured Morris Minor vans, and we had proper black telephones with proper dials and big heavy handsets that always seemed to smell the same. And so on ...We're all doomed14 -
When I was a lass we had the phone box up the road along from the pub and you had buttons A and B. We didn't have a phone in the house until I started work.2025 Fashion on the ration

When I were a lass - when walking down a street, we never had the urge to jump into every telephone box and ring our friends to find out what they'd had for dinner. One life - your life - live it!21

Nearest phone box when I was a child - was down the road and onto another road and cross a road - a prefab caught fire - burnt to the ground before the firemen arrived - I don't think much chance of dousing it if they had arrived earlier though.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

And we'd have rolled around laughing if we'd been sent a photo of it through the post...
