Lidl also do those large glass jars for their green olives, 4.99 for the massive jar during their Greek week. The olive jar just has a plain green lid with a sticker on it, the sticker comes off quite easily. I use mine for teabags.

I have recently given away a whole lot of old Kenco jars (with red plastic lids). Douwe Egberts jars are also good. It might be worth a wanted on freecycle/freegle/local FB sites.14

I love the Douwe Egberts jars, and can get them on the market, still well in date, for £4. OH likes the coffee (oddly I can't stand instant coffee, so just drink tea after my breakfast cafetière's empty) and I get to keep & re-use the jar - a win-win situation! I filled two up with dehydrated mushrooms this morning; got a whole tray of mushrooms for £1 on Friday, which made a massive mushroom soup as well as filling the dehydrator. They're now stashed away for future reference (and the dehydrator refilled with apple slices) but the soup is long gone!Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)12

My sister drinks Douwe Egberts and saves the jars for me - like Thriftwizard I use mine for dehydrated food. Jealous of the bargainous mushrooms - although I did get some reduced recently but not quite that good a deal!13

Hi guys
Today was definitely a spendy day. As it was my day off I made the most of my 24 hour tram pass I bought yesterday afternoon by going into town for some Xmas shopping this morning . Cards for close family ( nice but not the expensive ones) and bits and bobs, also collecting a click and collect order from N*xt. Most of the non money presents are either ordered or in transit now and OH has agreed to supply the money ones this year ( he had no work last year so this is a bonus)
My online shop also came ( including biscuits and savoury crackers) so my Xmas preps are coming on nicely.
No actual exercise but rushing to the tram stop in high winds and rain was a sort of workout.
I’m grateful today for making progress towards Xmas, for finding some lovely photo frames in TK M*x for a fraction of the price they would have been and for people being cheerful while I was out shopping.
Tomorrow should be a no spend ( mainly cos I’m not planning on leaving the house)
Any keep up the good work
Night night

Saw a plea from local foodbank today as they were completely out of tinned and packet food so raided the stores and took a couple of bags down. The organiser said they have seen an overwhelming increase in requests and been unable to keep up. Very grateful for having preps that meant I was able to respond straight away. Will be adding a few tins for them in every shop from now on (I didn't know this particular charity had a foodbank until now).
Jobs for this weekend are to check stock of candles and matches and to empty and check water containers. Also, we are in the process of putting up a fruit cage so need to plan what is going where (have plenty of raspberry canes and a few other fruit bushes already to go in).14 -
Definitely feel a little lighter and a little less worried for the new year, but I'm also trying not to count my chickens as it was only a couple of months ago that I thought I had a job lined up and then the offer was pulled two days before I was due to start!I do have a few random jars around, but unfortunately don't often buy things in jars so don't get the added bonus when they are empty. I have popped up a post on the local swap group to see if anyone has any but no response as yet.I went to visit a friend today who has just had a new baby, on my way home I stopped at the fruit and veg market and bought some lovely looking apples. I'm going to stew and freeze some (and add the peels and cores to my bag in the freezer for making apple jelly when it's full-I do have a few jars saved for this), and I have a fancying for an Eve's pudding, so that might need some custard to go with it. Despite the mild weather I'm definitely in the mindset of autumn.Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £36516

Just a thought for those of you wanting really big glass jars. It may be worth asking in your local chippy. Mine has them full of pickled eggs 🤢 and pickled gherkins. They may be kind enough to let you have them once they’re empty.22
