Seems to me that this is a fairly objective thing on the BBC news site for once ...Taken in conjunction with the supply chain problems not-a-problems, it certainly looks to me like anyone who still hasn't got their act together on the prepping front will soon be wishing that they had ...We're all doomed12

I restarted thinking about my preps last night. Winter is coming and apart from the car having had its winter service I haven't really got myself organised.
Over the last year we have run down what we had, moved things and generally had a clear out.
First thing to assess for me is food. Will do a freezer and cupboard audit over the next few days.

jk0 said:I have trouble getting my (breadmaker) bread to rise again recently. I had this trouble last year, and found out I need to keep the yeast in the fridge. I've been doing this, but my bread rises very poorly the last week or so.Both flour & yeast are well in date. Is it the time of year, maybe? I wonder if we're using up last year's flour surplus that they were unable to get to the shops?
Then I realised that, where I put the breadmaker was in the path of a draught from the cooker hood which occurred only when the wind was blowing from a certain direction - which is why it was intermittent.
I moved the breadmaker to the dining room and (for good measure) wrapped a woolly scarf round it and not had a problem since.

Tesco online grocery website down yesterday and still was at 2PM today. They cancelled my delivery for today.
I still have enough veg from last week's delivery so not a problem for me. OH's ndn managed to order from Asda instead. So glad I have preps (frozen and tinned) when this sort of thing happens.Decluttering Awards: 🏅🏅13 -
I think if you haven't already started prepping then it might be too late now..

Bought heating oil recently at 44p (the most I've ever paid in 13 years of living with oil heating), was kicking myself for missing the order cut off the week before when it was 40p - just seen this weekend's price and it is nearly 64p just one month later. I really worry for those on low incomes this winter.13

Some days we can be our own worst enemies, and forget what Granny knew & practised - have a store cupboard, put what you bought today at the back (ensures rotation), always have Something you can feed an unexpected visitor and keep the herbs, spices & condiments well stocked so even if you're eating potato Again, yesterday was baked with pepper & cheese, today has paprika & a Mexican vibe, tomorrow we go Spanish omelette on it...
Also, if you start with a clear list of everything you've got, then you have better info for meal planning & then the shopping list can be targeted at what we need for this week & what might be enjoyed next week. As a Big tub of multivite is expensive & the way to afford it is early & then that's one less thing to worry about.
As it is getting colder & darker it is so easy to loose sight of all we've managed so far. Opening a cupboard on a well thought through assortment of tins can be heart warming as well as stomach, toes etc!24
