@wondercollie, I’m so sorry that you’ve been going through this, it sounds like your boy will have had a lovely day today being spoilt. They do steal our hearts don’t they? Sending hugs and strength for tomorrow x

Isn't that bread pudding ?RAS said:
Once upon a time, in deepest darkest South Bank Paris, the local bakeries served up a wonderful confection.grace68 said:Yesterday i was helping, baking and sandwich making, for a lunch club, the amount of food waste, bowlfuls of crusts (we serve a high tea/finger sandwiches meal) and cuttings from edges of cakes etc.was appalling. So next week i am going to take food bags, bring home and see what i can make/freeze, even if only breadcrumbs!
Crusts, torn old baguette and brioche, mixed with some egg and milk, a bit of spice and a little dried fruit, baked. Built like a brick s))t house and very filling when sold in square portions.
Great for impoverished back packers and no doubt a modern English version could be successful.Vuja De - the feeling you'll be here later10 -

So sorry to hear this @wondercollie, thinking of you all and sending love and hugswondercollie said:Well, we are doing a different type of prepping here. WonderCollie will cross the Rainbow Bridge on Friday afternoon. Old age is terrible.
He is being spoilt rotten. Tomorrow he is going to McDonalds for a Happy Meal. He's been failing for a while and a few of his dog walking buds have stopped by for a sniff and a wee on the front lawn.
It's never easy to say goodbye.
Have to leave now, it's getting misty here.9 -
Just back from Co-op, alarmed to spot a 25% price rise in their frozen lasagne. Up to 1.25 from 1.00 - I'm not saying it's not worth it but it's a steep hike since last week. I'll make my own anyway. Same increase on their other own brand frozen meals for one.And another price rise, by stealth this time - instead of the till deducting 80p when you buy 2 x 4pts milk, the discount has now reduced to 60p. I say by stealth - it's probably signed on the teeny tiny shelf label, but I'd got into the habit of automatically picking up 2, thinking they'd be 2.20 as usual.5p extra on crisps, 5p extra on bread, seems like everything is jumping on the bandwagon.Starting to think it's money preps we need!I got a coupon for 50p off Vanish, till spit, so I left it on the Vanish shelf, hoping it helps someone out.ETA I think what's especially unfair about that 25% is that it disproportionately affects the target market for those frozen meals ie probably older people who live alone, for whom 25% is blooming steep.“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”16

A while ago (because I haven't been for a long time) our local Tesco Express used to have vouchers at the till that people hadn't used and offered them to the next person buying whatever it was. Also used to have a few pennies for the people who weren't quick enough to stop the petrol pump, though I expect that's all cards these days.Serendipitious said:I got a coupon for 50p off Vanish, till spit, so I left it on the Vanish shelf, hoping it helps someone out.13 -
Well, my Lady Wife and I have been wondering for at least the last four years when food prices are going to go up, because for sure an awful lot of farmers are either struggling or have got out of it. If nothing else, Doris & Co seem to think it's a spiffing idea to run down British farming so we import still more food which means that other countries produce it for us so they emit the CO2 instead, so Doris can mouth off about how he's saving the planet 'cos British cows aren't farting so much now. And so forth.Who knows, maybe if the price of basic foods eventually reaches a realistic level, the Great British Public will have to stop buying so much of the !!!!!! that fills the supermarkets?(And before anybody starts thinking "that all right for you, but ...", my LW and I are officially classed as "in relative poverty")We're all doomed18

My regular catfood delivery from Amaz0n was "unavailable" a couple of weeks back. I was offered, and accepted, a substitute pack which contained fewer, larger pouches. Needless to say, the cats & hedgehogs have been eating like rugby players ever since, and I've gone along with it as the smaller hedgehogs really need to pile on weight now to survive hibernation, so I went back to bring my next delivery of the usual pack forward. Only to discover that it's gone from £22-something to £29.73... eeek!
ETA: we regularly feed, and watch, at least 5 distinctly different hedgehogs; a huge one (probably mother of them all) a biggish one, sometimes seen with the huge one (maybe Dad?) two smaller ones who always turn up & eat together, and a fairly tiny one. There's also one with a very dark face and a few white paint spots on his or her back, but that one's not as regular.Angie - GC Dec 25 £376.31/£500: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 40/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)20
