Supermarkets aren't that well-stocked down here, Daz. I popped into one for 4 items earlier today; they had just one of those items. And there are some things that just haven't been available in either for weeks; orange juice, for example. I'm upping my planting, up at the allotment; as soon as something comes out, another crop goes in. If all else fails - we'll have potatoes!Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)13

daz378 said:...oh for some objective news reportingThat would be nice, but I fear we shall hope in vain - particularly since the British Biased Corporation got even more "woke" ...FWIW my money's on the crunch coming in the run-up to crimble, if not before. But we're just about maxed-out on preps now, with wholemeal spelt flour finally sorted at a buffer stock of 50Kg in 2Kg lots packed in Mylar bags with oxygen absorbers, which we'll keep rotating as long as we can still get it from the mill. Tinned and bottled stuff, jars of sauces, pasta and rice, Nido and whatnot should keep us going for the best part of 6 months if it has to although marg would be a problem if we lose the freezer. There's a question mark over how well the maincrop spuds will last this year once we dig 'em up because we simply don't have anywhere that's always cool to store them all, but if all else fails we can eat leeks. We're planting out the last of them today, and we stopped counting after the last session at 250-odd ...

I need to empty and defrost the freezer. Our cattle ranchers are taking huge numbers to the slaughterhouse because feed is getting expensive.
Pork has been cheap as well.
It's the grains that worry me the most.17 -

Grains... Last sack of barley came from livestock feed store as they are used to that size sack - husband intrigued by Mylar for lightweight camping food, so may coax him over to somewhat more serious food storage.10

Not sure if you guys have heard of 'The Great Reset' but I have done a little prep of my own in view of it. There is a possibility being discussed of a monetary reset. This might involve a new currency, a revaluation of our existing currency, or maybe TPTB stealing a bit of money from everyone's bank account. In view of that, I have paid my next January's income tax in advance from my savings. (Also, goes without saying that we should keep less than £85k in any account.)12

I have read an article about landline phones as we know them being phased out by 2025 due to companies no longer wanting to have the upkeep of copper wires. Landline calls will go through the internet instead.
This concerns me as I live in an area which has high incidence of powercuts and currently if the power is off (sometimes up to 3 days) I can at least phone my elderly mother for a chat and many of my other friends and family. If the power goes off and I only have a small amount of charge in my mobile phone, I will need to keep that for possible emergencies and not use it to contact family.
Does anyone have an knowledge of this and is there anything I (and my mother in particular) can do to prepare?Decluttering Awards: 🏅🏅11
