So what's everyone been up to on the prepping front over the weekend - redoubling efforts, having a bit of a breather or chucking a few extra tins in as usual?

Had a breather - broke into a bag of chopped mixed frozen veg to see what it was like. It passed muster so will order a replacement. Been busy with the soil sprouts, the clover came up right on schedule and is now greening on the window sill. Sunflowers and radishes are lagging, I think the temp of 18'C is a little low, but they'll get there, just a bit more slowly. Started off some fenugreek as I know that grows well and has a nice mild curry flavour. Not sure whether to get more of anything or not, now. Seems we're still heading for a No Deal but who knows?

Greyqueen, I grew celery one year as I had a free packet of seeds. Really easy, had loads, gave most away as I don't actually like celery unless cooked.

Ate some rainbow chard this weekend & it was marvellously like colourful celery.

I may try sneaking it into stew & see if the colour is noticed...
(They little know I have the seeds and Plans.)

:j That's great news, I must get some celery seeds immediately - or tomorrow, whichever comes sooner....... :rotfl:

Love hearing the gardening stories, they are most cheering and excellent :-)

Alas my indoor efforts foundered a little as I wasn't very well. Poor old jar sprouts went fuggly due to lack of rinsing, but there's plenty of cress and broccoli in the trays to tide me over and hopefully the chives will start emerging in the next few days.

Hit buy now a couple of times post Giles W-H - head torch, water containers and tiered sprouter from amazon; phone charging cables and water filters from ebay. I know there've been lots of false starts politically, but the EU has stated there'll be no more extensions if MPs can't agree on anything this week. Meanwhile failing Grayling & co are bizzy sorting emergency timetables in Downing Street.. looks like the moment for being afraid and buying more bog roll has arrived! £3 for 24 in Morrisons btw 8-) x
  • Went to Farmfoods yesterday and took advantage of some really good offers they had on and now have 6 x packs of 18 loo rolls, 6 kg of sugar, 2 x 12 packs of Heinz baked beans (400ish g size),4 x 6 packs of Heinz Cream of Tomato soup (also the 400g ish size), a couple of oil sprays for cooking and some packs of frozen fruit which along with a £5 off voucher from their brochure came in at under £50. Store room looks much better and we'll use it all anyway in everyday eating.

Sounds like a splendid haul :) I've never been to farmfoods, but heard they sell large multipacks of coke cans, did you see any on your visit? I don't really like them but they're good for treating hypos, and I like the idea of a good deal keeping the mayhem at bay!
  • Hi Dry the Rain I've just dug the brochure out of the recycling and yes, they have an offer of 18 cans of full fat coca cola and the offer is 3 x packs for £20 and it's mix and match between original, zero sugar and diet coke (the last two are a pack of 24). I've only just found Farmfoods and it's on one of the big industrial estates on the edge of the city so we don't go often but there were just too many good offers this month combined with the money off vouchers to not make the visit.

Hey thank you for looking it up - I haven't seen any leaflets for a while so that's very useful information, great price as well, shouldn't be too hard to spend another fiver for the discount :-))
  • Is anyone else getting increasingly worried at the rhetoric coming from some people over the apparently unsolvable problem of a Brexit deal to placate both Parliament here and the EU hierarchy? and even more at the very idea of a 'No Deal'? It seems the closer we get to deadline dates the more aggressive and vehement the voices of people who think remaining is the only option become. People who are in favour of leaving are becoming increasingly angry and impatient at the constant put offs and indecision of those in power, I wonder where it's all going to end with 1,000 riot trained police on standby at an hours notice and 10,000 more ready within a 24 hour period according to the midday news. What has this nation become?
