Oh Elaine, I am so sorry, I had no idea Jess was yours. I’m just along the road in Llanarth and the whole community is so angry and heart broken for you. The sharing made its way to my best friend in Fife, Scotland (before I had a chance to share), so just goes to show how powerful fb is. This man is not protecting his child, I hope. So sorry for your families loss, Jx17

Elaine I'm glad the man has been found, I hope he is shamed by his local community and carries that with him, he deserves it especially for just leaving and not being I won't say "man" enough but you know what I mean, to stop and own his stupidity and awful consequences. I'm so sorry you've had to go through that.
Prepping wise - sorted the larder a little, a couple of tins of plum tomatoes, Heinz tomato soup and most of baking ingredients are at their bbd.
First lot of seeds are on course, I have 2 different types of kale, my water melon seeds have germinated, everything will need transplanting soon and more sowing, I am behind by a couple of weeks.
We did not get chance to have our babys Christening or my Dad recording a video for our children that he wanted I hesitated as it felt so final and sad and we thought we had a few more months not days, he is now in hospital with my mum firmly by his side and we are all sat by our phones. We were not expecting this at all, I feel constantly sick.
How are everyone backing up photos? I have them backed up on a hard drive but that doesn't feel enough.

Oh @Thriftygifty, wishing your Dad a smooth & peaceful passing and also for healing for all of your family. What a sad time. And @elaine241, horrified to hear about your Jess; one of my farming friends had also shared your story down here.
Even down here in the deep South, I'm hanging back on the planting. It's just too cold for things like runner beans and sweetcorn yet; I have sown them in the little greenhouse, but they aren't up yet. Many of my allotment neighbours have planted theirs out, but having lost mine to frost in late May last year, I'm in no hurry. I was still picking decent beans at the beginning of November from their replacements, where others pulled theirs out at the beginning of September, because "they won't come to anything now." But plants don't work by the calendar! I do have several varieties of kale and leeks almost ready to plant out, though. Crossing my fingers that we don't have a frost tonight; my spuds have poked their heads up & I didn't get down to the 'lottie today to wrap them up nice & warm, because of playing nursemaid (along with DD2) to a tiny but indignant & feisty baby goldfinch removed from the cat yesterday. Doing fine so far...Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)12 -
Elaine, I'm so sorry to hear about your lovely dog
that's got to be heart-rending. I'll be thinking of you.
Thriftygifty, your dad ... terrible for you, and for all your family. I remember being glued to my phone when my mum was dyingI'll echo thriftwizard's words, if I may, "wishing your Dad a smooth & peaceful passing and also for healing for all of your family."
As far as photos are concerned, I back up onto an external hard drive - external being the operative word, because the originals and the backups are in different places/on different devices. My genealogy photos, I have them online, password protected. And I also have 3 x 32 or 64 GB flash drives, all full to the brim with documents and photos; if I had to leave the house in a hurry (e.g. there was a gunman about 8 miles away from me a few days ago, people were evacuated) they're on a lanyard round my neck.2023: the year I get to buy a car12 -
Omg. Can’t believe it. I am a lurker on this thread and now realise I live near to Elaine241 and jcriyadh 😱. Small world. I was horrified about your dog when I saw it on Facebook Elaine241 and always try and report the off roaders if I see them heading up the mountain.13

Oh Elaine, I am so sorry to hear about Jess! I'm glad the campaign worked to get the guy to come forward, and I hope the newspaper articles assist in reducing future incidents of idiots tearing up and down there.
And thrifty, I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I hope his passing is smooth, and I'm glad he can at least have your mum by his side.February wins: Theatre tickets11 -
Elaine sorry to hear about your dog, even a working dog is a family member. It's a pity that the bloke only came forward when being publicly shamed, although there's a possibility he might not have been aware of what he'd done at the time.
Thriftygifty, it seems the decisions have been taken out of everyone's hands. Not an easy time for the rest of you, but your dad won't suffer. Be kind to yourself and no guilt or regrets about anything, it is what it is and you were lucky to have him in your lives for so many years. One life - your life - live it!11 -
Thrifty, I am so sorry you did not get chance to have the family together. Thinking of you all at this difficult time.Elaine, I am sorry to hear about Jess.“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”10

Poor Elaine and shocking for her boys to witness that 😢😢11 -
Elaine, I'm sorry for your loss. I know the police can't prosecute for the death of an animal, but perhaps they could prosecute for destruction of property or animal cruelty?11
