Floss said:Polly, better Oxydol than OMO...My cousin and I lived near each other for a year in the early 70s. We'd both had our first child and decided to visit each other to share the housework and keeping an eye on the babies. I remember the first supermarket opening nearby. Small and nothing like the ones to come. We discovered Jif cream cleaner bought one to try and were amazed we didn't need to rub and scrub. We were so taken with it we'd make coffee and tea stains on worktops just to make them disappear. I found it odd they changed the name to Cif years later.I remember when washing up liquid appeared in the early 60s. No more swishing a block of Fairy soap in the hot water. Mum was a bit dubious but did adapt. I remember she considered Oxydol better for the whites than other powders. She used what she believed worked so never really tried others.. I've just remembered Dreft which I think was for woollens. I've remembered things I thought long forgotten over the past year . It must be having more head space than usual.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

Ooh, my mother used Dreft! Yes, I think it was for woollens. I think it was in a green box. My gran always used Harpic powder in the loo. It was all you could smell when you went into her house13

Either I'm immune or my hand washing skills are second to none.
I survived a food poisoning outbreak that was followed up by a case of CDiff (caused by the antibiotics used to get rid of the food poisoning) I'm a handwashing fanatic.
That's why I loathe seeing people running around the shops with vinyl gloves on. Constant transfer of bacteria from those gloves.
When we travelled by plane, I too also was the strange lady with hand sanitizer and disinfectant wet wipes. I remember hearing that the turn around time for cleaning crews on planes was very fast and they didn't pull down the trays for a good wipe. I once saw a woman change her baby on the seat and put the dirty nappy on the tray! Oral/fecal transfer right there!14 -
I open the mail and deliveries as they arrive. I don’t see the need to wipe them down or isolate them as long as you don’t touch your face or put your fingers in your mouth until you’ve washed your hands properly.Supermarkets seem pretty safe to me - compared to frequent trips to the hospital. Some shops are better than others for social distancing and a certain level of the public will always be ignorant - what more can I say?I have a mega day out next week. I chose to have my Bloodtest at a different hospital so I can break the journey on the way back and surprise a friend with a bunch of daffs. I’ll walk along the seafront to the next bus stop as my exercise and do some essential shopping at the same time. It’ll take me the rest of the week to get over it but the weather is gorgeous here and I’m desperate to be outside.15

Nice to see the playground squabble has ended, carry on prepping! We've got the garden cleared and now just need plants to put innit. I want some veg but am going to be pushed for space, it's quite a tiny garden. I'm also living off the stash now (got enough dried veg to make soup for the whole army!) and will restock later on in the year. The wee village shop here is amazing, I just hand in a list of what I want and 2 days later she brings it to the door. Lovely people.
Well done everybody who has got through yet another winter - coasting downhill for a wee bit now18 -
Wise decision, 3secondmemory, that little stroll by the sea in the sunshine will do wonders for your physical and mental wellbeing. If it's sunny we all need to grab the opportunity to get out in it, whether it's by the sea, in a park or in our own gardens. Even those who live in flats can get out onto a balcony or even just open a window and sit by it. Fresh air and sunshine are very potent for health.
Even in winter I sometimes open the bedroom windows for a short time to let some fresh air in.One life - your life - live it!14 -

Yes, the Mingster needs to accept you can't plant jellybabies or other sweeties. Filthy, disgusting vegetables, the greener the better. One life - your life - live it!13

I miss the colours, typing Kale, Kale ,Kale in dark green was great fun.I've asked before Mar but can't you do some growing upwards?.There are lots of ideas online for getting veg and herbs growing in small spaces. I've grown the tumbler tomatoes and herbs in both large pots but also in hanging baskets, troughs etc.pollyx
