Happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself.

Yes, much sympathy. Had labrynthitis before and it was horrid. Very debilitating! Hope it eases off soon.February wins: Theatre tickets13

Please could they close the schools in tier 2 I need a break from the germs in DS class, there I was being smug that we have reached day 11 of him being off school and being well when he becomes floppy and sleepy today and not up to much, we thought the excitement of Christmas may have caught up with him then..........spots!!! We think he has chicken pox there are random spots over his torso and base of his neck, we have done the glass test. He hasn't been in contact with anyone other than those in his class, his brothers don't go to nursery or school so the only place it can of come from is someone in his class, there was no email notifying us of a case so either someone wasn't aware their child had it or they have kept quiet....hmmm. I've emailed the school anyway just in case they see it. The headlice are still alive and kicking, the headlice treatment did not kill them grrrr, we are combing everyday but now with the pox (if that's what he has) I doubt he is going to let me. We are waiting for the other 2 to come out in spots it's not if more like when.

Oh no! Chicken pox is such a pain! It has an incubation period range of 10-21 days (with 14-16 the average), so school would seem the most likely infection point.
Have you get some calamine lotion in? And remember, no ibuprofen with chicken pox, makes the spots and risk of secondary infection higher. Only calpol/paracetemol. Hope he's over the worst of it quickly xxFebruary wins: Theatre tickets18 -
Ps. Meant to say that the spots look more like tiny blisters. Is that what they look like? Otherwise, could be something else.February wins: Theatre tickets17

Yes, chicken pox spots do look like tiny blisters. It's the same virus family as shingles and cold sores, I think. I didn't know that about ibuprofen. Thanks for the info.
Hope they all get over it soon.2025 Fashion on the ration

There doesn't seem to be much chance of not catching the virus when yours has managed to get nits and chicken pox, or is your child one of the "magnet" variety where everything finds him?
Hope they all get over it quickly. This just isn't what you need.16 -
I’d be very concerned if I had school-aged children. It’s very hard to make decisions when the picture is changing all the time. I’m staggered at the number of new cases and I’m so tired of people saying it’s a hoax when it clearly isn’t. The long term effects of this virus can’t be denied.
I have a blood test today so this is my last venture out into the world. I did a gratuitous shop yesterday – I bought things to stimulate my appetite and look forward to. I included steak, Lamb, some salad bits, lots of veg, some cheese, cold meat, olives etc my fridge looks splendid 😃
I have one last Iceland delivery coming today – long life milk and store cupboard stuff mainly. My freezer is full 😃
i’m only allowing £10 a week for incidentals such as fresh milk bread and a small amount of veg, and hope to save a substantial amount of money towards a mobility scooter over the next few months 😃
I sorted through all my seeds last night - i’m excited to get started especially since that god-awful tree has fallen down. It already makes a difference to the amount of light. The days are slowly getting longer 😃
The only thing I haven’t been able to get hold of was any Christmas spirit but I will wish everyone a safe and happy New Year. Stay home and stay well 😃16 -
Chickenpox is very contagious. You are contagious for 2 days before the spots appear, and spots are often the first sign of the infection in children. You remain contagious until the last spot has popped and crusted over. But you only have to be in the same room as someone with chickenpox to catch it. Or, touching clothing or bedding on which their spots may have popped (bleurgh). You can also catch chickenpox from someone with shingles, if you've never had chickenpox.
Thriftygifty, you should at least get 10-14 days before the other two start showing spots as they will likely be incubating it now. Wishing you lots of strength, rest and patience for the coming weeks. And I hope your children get over it quickly.
But yes, I agree, very concerning about school age children and them being in school with the new variant of covid going around. Also very contagious it seems, and children aren't known for how well they maintain social distance!February wins: Theatre tickets16 -
greenbee said:Getting ready for back to work tomorrow. Although I'm working from home it's pretty full on, so I'm making sure that my meals are planned and prepped in advance - and that they use up small amounts of the stuff I no longer eat much. I've been put on a low-carb diet to help with the consequences of long covid (thankfully not also the low-histamine diet or there'd be nothing left to eat!), so the remaining supplies of carbs and pulses have to be used carefully so I don't trigger symptoms or a relapse.
My prepping needs to be about building a routine and strategies that make pacing possible and ensure that I have plenty of ready-prepared food so I don't eat the wrong thing when I'm pushed for time or tired.17
