Certainly not about to trust this lot to do anything other than look after themselves & their cronies, Ming!
Just wondering whether anyone fancies joining me in a little challenge? It crossed my mind yesterday to try to spend a week using only mechanical gadgets in the kitchen, apart from the actual cooking devices, i.e. the cooker, the kettle & the toaster; no breadmaker, no food processor, no hand mixer, no Bamix. I don't know why! It just seemed important to remind myself of how things used to be done, and how much time they used to take. I'm lucky enough not to need to use them, i.e. no arthritis and no trouble lifting things. I do have a number of old-fashioned gadgets like an ancient Mouli-legumes and a good hand-whisk, which will make life a little easier. We hardly ever have power cuts here, but that's not to say we never will, and I just want to keep my hand in, as they say!Angie - GC Aug25: £374.16/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)15 -
I don't use any of these apart from a toaster.. I suppose life does go on without toast..14

You can make toast on your gas hob @MingVase.@thriftwizard I’m finally putting all my gadgets away in cupboards as the kitchen is nearly done. I might even start cooking again one day! Currently I only do complicated/involved stuff in other people’s kitchens due to lack of surfaces here. The one thing I have realised I’m lacking is a really big mixing bowl. Sadly my mum no longer has the huge Mason Cash one I was hoping to steal.16

I don't often use the gadgets, tbh. The only gadgety things I use quite often are the microwave (to quickly heat up things like beans or soup), and the hand blender when making soup (but I only do that about once a month). Obviously microwave would get replaced by hob or oven, and the hand blender.....we'd just have chunky soup lol.
Hope you're all keeping well xFebruary wins: Theatre tickets14 -
Does it sound daft to say I've never used a gas grill to make toast on? I think because I had Calor gas cookers for the last 40 years and they can be a wee bit slow, it was always quicker to use the toaster. This one now is manins gas though so I might try it.16

Doesn't hurt that I completely agree with the sentiment, either.

It's not that long since I had a gas fire with the metal grill on the front, and always made my toast on it. With a home-made toasting fork made out of wire. Ok, it was striped toast, from the grill, but very easy.17

We have a breville one cup machine rather than a kettle, before the children came along my head was much more in prep land, we had a gas hob fitted as backup if there were power cuts, we have a kettle for the hob if need be in the camping cupboard. I do use a hand mixer for baking, I don't think I own a whisk anymore.
