I think a lot of people are worried about their jobs. My youngest son’s partner lost her job 2 weeks into lock down but has very quickly managed to find another. My son says he will be losing his too as the company he works for are going into liquidation. He is actively looking.
One of my DIL hasn’t worked during lockdown as she is a beauty therapist. However, she has started up her own baking from home business this week. I admire her enterprise.
I’m ok, I’m retired so no longer have to worry about work. However, I was a nurse so I would have been ok under present circumstances. It’s very hard times for some and I wish you all the best of luck.19 -

Thrifty
If push comes to shove, could you go back to work and OH be the stay at home parent for a while? Not ideal but might be better than nothing? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing17 -
Don't despair Thrifty. I think a lot of us on here have been through really hard times. You do come out the other side, and sometimes it is better than you imagined it could be. Keep positive, play with your kids and cuddle your DH. Things will sort themselves out.15

Anyhow thank you everyone for listening to another of my mini breakdowns yet again, I promise from now on to keep it relevant to prepping!

Hey thrifty. Just wanted to pop in and give my support. Redundancy worries are stressful, and it is hard not to take it personally when someone is brought back on, and you aren't (or put on furlough, and you aren't, or you're made redundant and they arent). We often put a lot of effort into our jobs, and want the businesses to succeed etc, so these things can sting. It probably doesn't feel like it, but it's likely a financial decision. Could it be that the other person is on a lower wage? Therefore cheaper to bring back?
Also, my husband went through redundancy with a company he had worked for, for 17 years. He was super angry with them. It felt soo personal to him. He was the main earner at the time. More than double what I was earning, and we were living abroad the time too. But we go through it, returned home, got back on our feet, and now I am the sole earner whilst he is the stay at home parent. I'm telling you this, so you can be reassured that whilst you may have some tough times, you WILL get through it.

It's all true, thrifty. A situation arises, you feel shock, anger, hurt, anxiety. Then you start dissecting the situation, looking at all your options. Some time later you look back and realise that you were not only capable of dealing with it, but you did deal with it, you survived and even found yourself in a better situation. At least you have found the MSE site and forums. I suggest a look at the Debt Free Wannabe challenges, including the Frugal Living challenge, as well as all the OS forum stuff. One life - your life - live it!17

Well slept all night apart from waking at 4am and writing out a strongly worded letter to the ceo in my head. Came downstairs to be told by DH that he had an email and they are selling the company 🤦 yet again didn't see that one coming!! Officially give up. We're sitting tight and riding the storm in a cloud of grumpiness. I'm off to order that baking book you mentioned a few pages back and taking control back of this situation.15

I think we should all ensure our homes, garages, sheds and vehicles are secure. I have just had an email from the local police force to say that shed break-ins are up 60% and bearing in mind the redundancies on the horizon, petty crime has always increased in previous recessions and it will doubtless be the case over the coming months. Now is the time to replace that dodgy padlock, add additional locks etc. and stay ahead of the game.Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14
