We walked earlier this afternoon, much more traffic flow on the lanes but everyone slowed to pass us and we did as we always do and get as far off the road to the hedges as we could, all drivers raised a hand in thanks. We came home along the footpath into the arboretum and saw no other walkers on our way on either road or path. It is cool and breezy today so perhaps folks aren't out because of that or perhaps they all headed into the high street in the hope that more shops would be open or possibly to meet their friends. Not as bad walking as it might have been so we're OK. How has it been where all of you live?14

Ordinarily I work in a multistorey office in the heart of Manchester, accessed by passing building sites. For the last 2 months I have been working from a bedroom in Lancashire, and they'll get me back into that office pretty much using my sons as hostages. My colleagues are wonderful people, but I don't think the building will Ever be as full as it was before Christmas, as nearly all of us can work just fine from home & a lot of us intend to for as long as possible. The Christmas Do, alas including two leavers, is going to be tricky to arrange but we can figure some kind of digital kneesup even if none of us trust public transport (the two leavers are particularly physically frail, but we All have family.) How I will carry on delivering training I have not yet figured, but that isn't my problem to solve. A really unfussy background is.
At home, the lads are both home with us, so there's plenty of spare muscle & company but the apprentice could be summoned off at almost any time to almost any location & the youngest not only has no A levels to sit, he can't even hawk his talents as an intern - ah well, he's developing a portfolio, and will probably figure how to convert that into money when he decides he wants some. (Apart from his art gear he's almost Buddhist regarding possessions.) They grasp the theory of gardening (both can use a shovel competently) but don't seem to quite realise that seasons means you should be getting things into the ground Now to enjoy them Later. They're also a bit uncertain of all meat not from the supermarket/chippy. One can fish but has learned at a catch & release pond - whereas I learned in a rickety tub above a school of truly wonderfully stupid mackerel & know exactly what I'm doing with a priest. Gutting's trickier - I'll have to re-watch a few YouTube videos & maybe ask the scout family to nudge me towards help! I teach scouts air rifle shooting but strictly at targets & the house rifle (the Jezebel) is of a particularly feeble heft to enable me to scout with it - I may buy something with more thoroughness online but unless the lads will cooperate with the processing, I won't bother [Or will & not tell them until they decide that vegetarianism is not to their taste].
Meanwhile, I am trying to figure when is best to do a costco run & reload on the little things that make life comfortable - my pillar of Persil is down to one box (from 5) and the Christmas cocoa stash is finally empty. How many "Ahh, oh" moments do they need to go through before the penny drops?
My sisters are struggling not being able to hug our mother but the If Then Else of viral infection & sibling retribution makes the whole maintaining a distance but staying lively online easier.
Onwards!15 -

Those are not intentionally done to cause mayhem and spread unhappiness but a troll will aim to post for precisely those reasons. We all are preppers, we all are allowed to make the odd mistake, God knows I do because I'm only human. That old adage about those without sin casting the first stone is an appropriate thought to keep in our minds along with the fact that these people are singing from the same hymn sheet as we are.....they aren't enemies!

dandy-candy said:Those are covid associated deaths, ie the person was covid positive at the time of death but could have died of a stroke, heart attack, cancer etc. If you click on “about the data” at the top of the page you linked it explains “ Deaths of people who have tested positively for COVID-19 could in some cases be due to a different cause.” It is not accurate to say all these people died of covidAnd if you read more it says
The data do not include deaths of people who had COVID-19 but had not been tested, people who were tested positive only via a non-NHS or Public Health laboratory, or people who had been tested negative and subsequently caught the virus and died.
If you're going to quote, quote the whole explanation. If you want to play statistician proper I suggest you find out the average death rate for each month over the last five years [because last year was significantly lower than the previous twenty] and then decide whether or not your 200 is in fact 600 or more. Me, I'm not a statistician, I don't know everything, but when I read a daily death figure, I don't immediately divide it by three and call it true.

Would anyone who's actually been out into The Big Wide World today care to give us hermits a clue as to what percentage of the folk they saw were wearing any kind of face covering?

I had to take OH to B&Q earlier (he doesn't drive my van, being built rather more on Viking than Japanese lines & finding the leg & headroom somewhat inadequate, but he needed bulky, heavy stuff) & there was just one person in a queue of about 50 wearing a mask. Not many more inside either, except a few of the staff.Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)10
