Forgot to add, I managed to get 25kg of white bread flour recently, when we've done that in the past we portioned it up into Tupperware containers with enough for each loaf which is great but we then used some of the containers for other things so now don't have enough.
Someone on here mentioned flour bins so we went off to do some research and found a company selling air tight containers on wheels which take up to 15kg. Ordered two which arrived today and they look good so we will see how we get on.
Planning on ordering another two for dog biscuits and cat biscuits if I can work out where they will live 😁14 -
Bread and Butter pickles this amount made 4 jam jars
3 cucumbers (decent sized ones not the little 6" ones) sliced
4 onions peeled and sliced
3 tablespoons salt
6oz white granulated sugar
1 pint distilled white vinegar
1 tablespoon mustard seeds
1 tablespoon celery seeds
Slice the cucumber and onion and put into a deep bowl sprinkle with the salt and turn with your hands to mix. Leave to stand for an hour. To make the pickling vinegar put the sugar, vinegar, mustard seed and celery seed into a saucepan, bring to the boil once the sugar has dissolved, keep stirring until it has, simmer for 3 minutes turn off the heat. Sterilize some jars, I do mine in a slow oven for half an hour and have ready a tray lined with newspaper or an old tea towel.Rinse the cucumbers and onions well and leave to drain well. Pack into hot jars up to the top, re boil the vinegar and use to fill the jars to cover the cucumber and onion, put lids on and screw tight. Leave on tray to cool. Leave at least 1 week to mature before using.

I absolutely love the advice and support in this thread. It's reassuring at a time when everything else is going wrong. We're all just trying to get through this the best way we can. Will be having a go at pickles and gardening when I have my own space again, but everything's on hold for now and quite rightly so.

Every life is precious regardless of colour, race, creed, preference and every life lost because of this virus is a tragedy. I just want everyone to be able stay as safe as it's possible to keep them until this pandemic has either run its course or been cured/prevented. I don't want people (and some will, it's human nature) to be given extra chances to catch it because they think it's OK to mix again, that's an awfully sad worry that I just can't shake off.
And additionally, this isn't like sitting there with a pistol loaded with only one bullet and playing Russian roulette by yourself. With the illness only infecting you. People are contagious before they show symptoms, so can easily pass it onto others very quickly, and will almost certainly pass it onto anyone they share a house with.
So, as much as I would like to take the attitude that others can take whatever risks they feel like, I can't. Other people's choices can have a huge negative impact on me and my family.
I feel most for those single parents, with kids at home, stuck in flats where one or more of the household requires to be shielded, because even when the restrictions are relaxed, it will still be very unsafe for them venture out.
