People apparently flocking up north and over to the islands to their holiday homes and lets. Calmac ferries in talks with the Scottish Govt to stop sailings as these people are buying up all the food on the islands as well as potentially bringing the virus. Currently no cases up there.

Ok great thanks, I feel so out of my depth at the moment. Sorry another question....flour...should I freeze it to kill off anything and if so how long? Then store in a clip tuppleware box? I've googled it but dont trust google with my flour supplyMrsLurcherwalker said:I would take very little notice of 'use in a month' if it's been frozen within it's use by date, it would probably be slight deterioration from its best that warning will be for, making sure the product is at it's peak to maintain the 'quality' the manufacturer/packager intends it to be. I would think if it's frozen it's stable and I would be happy to eat it.
I really appreciate all your help and advice on this thread it has/is amazing.

Even the prepacked supermarket meat? The annoying thing is I wanted to switch to the local butchers, veg box and milk man and was working out budgets, before this all kicked off but was to slow and now they aren't taking new customers!dandy-candy said:I regularly eat meat thats been frozen for a year. I have a few friends that work at holiday parks and they said they have emailed all their customers for Easter hols saying if you want to change the date of holiday etc and very few have so in a min there will be a mass holiday movement unless they shut it down now. It's scary.MingVase said:People apparently flocking up north and over to the islands to their holiday homes and lets. Put the pack of flour in a sealed plastic bag and freeze it for 48 hours before it goes into storage. This kills off any insect eggs or larvae that might be present. It doesn't stop an infestation in storage though if it comes from something else already stored. It will however give you some protection if you store the flour in the sealed bag which will give protection from an external infestation. Do the same with pulses.11

Hmm. I wish I could buy some flour to store. I went to 4 supermarkets yesterday, but only found a bit of white bread flour at Waitrose. Just about to start on my last pack of strong wholemeal.I was reading the other day that the flour that goes in British bread is grown in the UK. They can use such poor quality flour due to the Chorleywood process. Interesting article: https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/food-and-drink/features/the-shocking-truth-about-bread-413156.htmlThe flour I use in my breadmaker comes from Canada. They obviously don't want to risk the U-boats.

Sorry for not keeping up. Where do you work if you don't mind me asking ? Still looking for definitive science here but I do understand that it survives the shortest time on porous surfaces ( ithink I know whym but just a guess so won't post that thought. I'm also wondering what the evidence says about survival in the air at say 10 degrees.Onebrokelady said:We were told today at work that the virus can live for 6 days on plastic,48 hours on cardboard and 6 hours on clothes,we have to change out of our uniforms and put them in a cotton bag so we can take them home to put straight into the washing machine in the bag, they have to be washed with no other clothes at 60 degreesOriginal Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,736 Owed = £10,8949 -
Sorry I didn't explain properly about the toys,we have come up with a plan to issue out a bag of things for each child so they aren't being shared round, this will contain only washable items so they can hand it back in the bag when they are finished with it and we can decontaminate it ready for us by someone else 😊DigForVictory said:That is rough - a sick child should be allowed something to cuddle, tell stories to, explain medical procedures to &, if all gets too much, bite.

Do these people really think they are going to be able to sit out months of this in a camper van?
