Up to a point I'm hideously fortunate in that youngest is into Art, and so has a fearsome scanner, a solid camera and does what I tell him. [Eventually]
Which means I have to say "I need a clear photo or scan of X and I need to be able to fit 50 such documents onto this memory stick - adjust your settings accordingly."
His grip on IT security being a little hazier, I stand on a bit of clear-ish floor to check every document is digitised, and that I end up with a full set of images, stick & All originals whereas he does not leave them on his hard disk anywhere nor on the Cloud.
My sister just lined the papers on her bedspread & pointed her phone's camera at them, then downloaded camera to stick & went on her way. She may or may not be using google drive as an image repository [& now I need to stop worrying about that], but we both have In Case Of images stashed.
The 'lay it out on a bedspread' technique helps as DD can be included. A mental image of passport top left, bank statements top right, birth certificate & marriage lines along the bottom & she can help you find the originals, copy the info onto an agreed stick and put the originals back away again - it's all good practice.
Some time ago (previous thread) we were discussing the charms of patchwork & the possibility of stashing the odd sovereign coin etc in a patch. Another could hold an SD card or memory stick, but you would have to be careful about the laundry....
Me, I think my dear old teddy bear is going to get shrewdly restuffed, or have a nifty little waistcoat made. (I know, no gentleman would *dream* of pockets in a waistcoat, but therein lies the charm. Yes my family will roll their eyes and point to it as [further] evidence I'm bonkers, but we've been exchanging these pleasantries All Christmas.)
Start the New Year with a prep in place?
Mrs LW, hoping you have survived the night and that the experts are ready to restore your teeth & your sunny disposition in the coming few hours? (If I presume you have been anything less than adorable my abject apologies - just my family take on their most stressed aspects when their teeth are not right.) Iechyd da! or yakky dar as my Liverpool colleagues pronounce it.

Bob, I had to look that up!0 -
Thanks D for V I slept the night through and emerged at 8.15 this morning, unheard of and the first decent sleep I've had since before Christmas so I feel like me again. The tooth isn't painful and I'm able to eat on the other side easily enough so I'll let the dental fraternity get their post holiday day under way and then ring and see if I can find someone with an appointment slot this week or early next. I have my temporary filling kit and some co-codamol so I can hold any discomfort until that happens. Isn't it nice to be back to normal???
Today I shall go to the store room and do an inventory of stocks there, it's been a bit hectic since we moved at the start of the autumn and I haven't really been into the preps cupboard other than to pull out the odd tin of tomatoes when I've needed them. I'm going to have to get used to prepping in a different way as when we lived back in Hampshire we were able to borrow a Makro card and buy BIG packs of things to store against our need of them, no such thing here and smaller packs take more space don't they? I'm nearly out of look rolls so that's where I'll start the re-stock. Onwards and upwards preppers and don't let the dissenters wrong foot you!0 -
Mrs L - W I believe most towns have an emergency dental facility, not necessarily a hospital but a unit in a medical centre somewhere which is open long hours for just your sort of problem. I went to one myself in Perth some years ago when I had a gum boil which was agony. Maybe if you ask around a local person would be able to suggest where to go. It's not a long-term solution but brilliant if you have no dentist or your dentist is closed for the holidays. Good luck - there is nothing worse!Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

In 2018 I had one broken tooth ( the culprit was some popcorn ) and I also chipped one of the front ones by grinding my teeth at night . So last year was an expensive year, dentist wise.
Nannywindow, I have lost several bits of teeth to grinding, until I realised it was caused by stress. Actively looking for the causes of this stress and trying to solve it, stopped the grinding. There may be other causes, I don't know, but this works for me (it now flags stress for me).Are you wombling, too, in '22? € 58,96 = £ 52.09Wombling in Restrictive Times (2021) € 2.138,82 = £ 1,813.15Wombabeluba 2020! € 453,22 = £ 403.842019's wi-wa-wombles € 2.244,20 = £ 1,909.46Wombling to wealth 2018 € 972,97 = £ 879.54Still a womble 2017 #25 € 7.116,68 = £ 6,309.50Wombling Free 2016 #2 € 3.484,31 = £ 3,104.590 -
Siebrie thank you for taking the time to post.
I know it was caused by stress / anxiety, mainly because of a family illness that was not being diagnosed by several GP's for months . ( eventually ended up in A and E and within 5 hrs there was a diagnosis and treatment offered ) I also suffer with T.M.J.D from time to time and the dentist has offered me valium when it gets really bad. Hopefully the problems have calmed down for now and therefore the grinding. TBH I don't know I'm doing it.
Thanks again.Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0 -

I have the most ground-down teeth my dentist has ever seen and they are now all capped. I have to have a plastic splint in my front upper teeth at night which stops this grinding and also alleviates some headaches, neck aches, jaw problems, etc. Bruxism is the medical name. I think the splint was about £70 to get made, but worth it.Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

I have been Awol for a while because of family illness and RL. But I aim to be more productive on here during 2019.
Santa brought me a vacuum sealer :j. I have been instructing DH as to what I need sealed, the leftover xmas meats for a start. Some things will be trial and error but I'm sure that there will be plenty of choice in the coming months.
MrsL ouch ! I hope you can get that tooth sorted a.s.a.p. In 2018 I had one broken tooth ( the culprit was some popcorn ) and I also chipped one of the front ones by grinding my teeth at night . So last year was an expensive year, dentist wise.
I shall have to up my prepping starting next week, as my OTC medication has seen a serious dip over the Xmas period with both of us going down with colds and coughs. Tinned foods are not too bad, just some items to replace. I also need toilet rolls as I only have about 20 left .
Thank you for the lists of details to be stored, it will be invaluable for family if DH and I peg it together. DD knows of some of the "paper" details but a micro SD card or dongle would help no end. I hadn't thought of digitising it
I love my vacuum sealing machine,I let part of my home on Airbnb and I have a basket in the bathroom with bits and pieces guests might forget,so far I have sealed things like a toothbrush, cotton buds, dental items. They look professionally sealed and save me a fortune .The hospitality sites charge a fortune for sealed grooming items.
You can also reseal items like large bags of crisps and snacks by heat sealing them in their original bag.0 -
And if a guest uses a toothbush, but leaves it behind, you can reseal it again!0
