Makes me wonder what they are using to deep clean with & how you test a surface, but virologist pal says cheerfully the virus' outside can't fight off soap. Soap is a must - reminding me washing a curry pan the oil doesn't come off with just water, you need soap. Reducing this spooky virus to something as mundane & deal-able with as curry feels very reassuring,
Doesn't stop me twitching as I hear of folk I know going into self-isolation (but her boss had been to the Milan office & their UK branch was being deep cleaned & they were all sent to work from home),11 -

Apparently people are stealing sanitizer from hospitals.11

In one of the local village shops this morning I got to the check out and was offered loo rolls and paracetamol along with the information that the local branch of Morrissons was limiting the amount of these and other items like bread to 2 per family at the checkout and have stopped the buy one get one free or buy one get one half price offers. I didn't need either so declined but if people aren't already spooked by the constant drip feed of the media things like that will send the fear levels sky high. The girl was only being kind as I'm older but as I said to her 'we've had long enough to get ready for this possible shut in and people have already had a lot of time in which to prepare stores and medications so if you've left it this late you're going to struggle aren't you?' she then asked me if I'd like cash back so I said 'only if it's buy one get one free', much giggling and then home for coffee.15

The information I saw regarding post-shopping was, wash your hands when you get home, pack away your shopping, wash your hands again.
You wash your hands to remove debris, dirt, dust etc. as well as possible contamination. Gel/ sanitizer will not remove physical matter, pointless rubbing it over dirty hands.
Interesting to see media images of attractive young ladies with flowing locks floating around their masked faces. Touch your hair with your hands, or catch a sneeze or cough... Hair floats over face and touches eyes... Successful transfer of virus.11 -
For many years I have used Clinell wipes for cleaning surfaces that needed to be super clean such as formica table tops before preparing iv's and mixing meds, it usually cost around £8 for the 200 wipes just looked on Amazon and a pack is now £35! Too harsh for hands but great for trolley/basket handles.Slightly bitter11

They have some Clinell universal wipes 200 from £17.99 and refil packs cheaper, I was just looking at my regular supplier! Sorry to mislead people!Slightly bitter9

MIL is panic buying and panicking in general, problem is that there is no method to it so she buys random stuff and then does not use it. She has enough toilet roll to last her for a couple of years at least.
Local shops are all fine, could even have bought hand gel if I would have wanted it.
Annoyingly my oven has broken, I do have it under warranty so it will be fixed but working pattern means that can take a couple of weeks. I bake quite a bit of bread etc so it is an inconvenience.
