First thing I expect. I often pop to the shops to top up bread, milk and fruit before work, which is how I know they've had stock. My MIL hasn't been able to get any either, so will be taking her some of ours today.February wins: Theatre tickets8

It's all very well washing your hands when you get home but if you then unpack your shopping are you reinfecting your hands. I wonder how long it can live on surfaces like shopping and are you then storing the virus at home? How do you solve this problem?

I read that the virus can live for up to 12 hours on surfaces. My daughter in law puts a bit of bleach in the sink with some water and uses a cloth wrung out to wipe shopping before putting it away .Having seen someone from the butchers department in morrisons kick a pack of meat across the floor then pick it up and put it on the shelf I can understand why she has always done it.13

There are some great OCD strategies for the sypermarket that some of us have used in the past to fend off the dreaded lurgy - Just some ideas: ( this is all just natural instinct for Mrs Un & myself). Go first thing in the morning. Don't pick the first thing on the shelf pick the third, fifth, whatever. For trolley pick the one that's been outside for a while not one that's only just returned to the trolley park. A difficult one for me next, but calm minds must prevail these days. If some loppy b******d starts spluttering everywhere without regard to their surroundings, don't call them out before doing a quick 180˚ turn and scooting off in the opposite direction. You can call them out from two aisles away, but as I said, calm minds will make this whole thing easier on the whole planet.
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?14 -
As I realised I have some isopropyl floating around in the workshop (it's an electronics/recording studio thing) I thought I might do a little research on the persistence of this little !!!!!! on various surfaces. Too much internet still gives me headaches, so with attribution this might take a few days. My community nurse is visiting on Monday and she usually has the hospice's consultant jooked up to her laptop, so I'll see if there's any random advice for the at risk & their kin.
Meanwhile make like MC Hammer (can't touch this)

Thanks Unrecordings for being the voice of experience and straight common sense and being prepared to share your strategies with us, total feet on the floor practicality, bless you xxx.7

DIY HAND SANITIZER
UPDATE: A READER ALERTED ME TO NEW CDC GUIDELINES: A BETTER RECIPE IS ONE THAT RECOMMENDS TWO-THIRDS OF A CUP OF 99% RUBBING ALCOHOL AND ONE-THIRD CUP ALOE VERA GEL.
Chances are you already know that hand sanitizer is out of stock everywhere! On the way into the city last night we were listening to news radio and there was a story about making your own hand sanitizer. Hello…why didn’t I think of that? I had everything I needed in my “oil toolbox.” The recipe below is from Alan Solomon of Hudson Square Pharmacy in New York City.
PRINTDIY HAND SANITIZER
Make your own hand sanitizer using essential oils and a few products you may already have on hand.
- Prep Time: 2 minutes
- Total Time: 2 minutes
SCALE 1X2X3XINGREDIENTS
- 99% rubbing alcohol
- aloe vera gel
- essential oils
- glass bottle
INSTRUCTIONS
- In a glass bottle, fill about 2/3 rubbing alcohol
- Use 10-15 drops of essential oils per 2-ounce bottle. I used tea tree and lavender
- Top off bottle with aloe vera gel
NOTES
The pharmacist suggested using a small spray bottle. I made a larger one using a clean hand soap bottle and filling it 1/4 with rubbing alcohol, 20 drops of tea tree and 20 drops of lavender essential oils and then filled the rest with aloe vera gel.

Amused at the news this morning trying to persuade people not to panic buy. Perfectly sensible but she seemed to think the supermarkets would cope. As the local ones are desperately trying to recruit delivery drivers (have been since before Christmas), I do not put huge faith in this & anyway I like a well-stocked cupboard.8

COVID19 can live for up to 9 days on hard surfaces, a lot less on soft. The Chinese tested it.
Calicocat try surgical spirit with glycerine added to soften the skin. And maybe lavender e/o
