:) I scrolled down the list and didn't see anything like Job Loss or Relationship Breakdown leading to Homelessness.

Given this is the major emergency likely to affect folks in developed countries like the USA and ourselves, it seems a major oversight.

And as for their savings - well since since at least one US state refuses to cooperate with the FBI et al in money laundering, it needn’t be too far away... start with Nevada, Wyoming, and South Dakota. Frankly Nevada figures - home to Vegas after all.

Hello, preppers, been a bit busy in RL lately, but fast getting back to all my OS ways. :D:hello:

All my little savings accounts had to be raided for a car operation, so almost back to square 1 now! Thankfully, I have a bit of invigilating work coming up in a few weeks, for which I'll get paid early November, so that will be withdrawn and used to replenish the household stash. :D

My children have a rucksack each that they no longer use, so those are going to become BOBs for us - one for them to share, and one for DH and me. I'm in the process of sorting out Mount Ironmore and the rest of our clothes, so as I buy new grundies etc., a pair of each, plus a change of clothes, will start off each bag.

One of my sisters is married to an American and they live over there with their children. Sis is about as right wing as you can get without falling off the planet, her older 2 are left-leaning, which makes for some interesting conversations with her - correction, her rants at everything and everyone whose opinions are opposed to hers! In weak moments, I have been known to push her buttons just a teeny bit on some subjects... <bad girl>... :rotfl:

I always used to leave my mobile downstairs to charge, but during my mum's last year or so, she used to ring at random times (dementia), so since then I keep it upstairs when I go to bed. It's on silent, but will vibrate only if someone rings, so it won't wake up DH.

I've been rummaging around and finding all the seeds I've got for edible stuff, trying to organise them for next year. Some are horrifically OOD, but have grown in little tubs for salad greens - bit pathetic but nice in my tummy! :D. This autumn, our privet hedge in the back garden will be replaced by a proper fence plus 2 garden sheds - the privet is a hideous monster that's probably been there 50 years or so! We'll be able to use parts of the fence for growing against (hanging baskets on the top, rasps or peas up the height etc), and we'll actually have more [STRIKE]growing[/STRIKE] useable space at the bottom of the garden. Our back garden, plus a few neighbours either side, backs onto other gardens with a snicket between them. Said snicket is owned by one of the houses, gated at either end with some wicked wire on top, so incredibly safe from burglars etc.

    A xo

Cheapskate eek sorry to hear about the car bill. I had tons of OOD seeds in my boxes and most have been used this year as spares and mostly they all grew !! Only things that were a little iffy were some 2009 toms..
You only lose a little time if you have to resow so its worth trying some I nearly fainted at the price of some seeds this year and how few you get now in a pack.
I mostly still use Moreveg and DTBrowns but need to get back into seed saving next year.

Things getting interesting re the Saudi oil strikes. Half their production lost and major impact on world oil supplies.
  • On the subject of grab bags, can I just add that I have done the 'look in the fridge' thing.
I think I got the kit from the local neighborhood watch unit. It's a small plastic bottle into which you put a note of all the meds you are on and pop it in the fridge. It came with a green sticker that you put on the front door. I believe paramedics are trained now to look in the fridge for these details, but the sticker on the door tells them straight away where to look.
Hope that makes sense at this time of the morning - I've only had one cup of tea so far!!!
Everything will be alright in the end - and if it's not alright, it's not the end ........

    Good advice Cocketts.

I'm on my second cuppa of the day, but have just opened my last box of teabags. Must buy more.
Spend less now, work less later.

About to run out of tea? The Horror!
Since you will be restoring, check loo roll also? Plus other essential preps to taste...

My first thought on hearing the Saudi news was that fuel will get more expensive - possibly not today given the reserves they have to draw on but soon. Filling the car is definitely on today's to do, cold or no cold.
  • In terms of fuel - I might be right in thinking that OPEC still limits production somewhat to maintain prices (and for what it's worth, Iran is still a member of OPEC)

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

Picked up a new bottle of rennet on my visit to Lakelands as I noticed mine was coming up to OOD and I'm not sure how it performs when it's old?? It was opened probably two years ago last when someone decided they wanted to use it then they didn't...Annoying..
Anyway at least I am able to make soft cheese again, I swear I could live without most things but not my cheese :) Cheddar or otherwise .
I do still need to have a go at making hard cheese although it does sound a bit of a faff... Has anyone ever experimented??
