I wonder if Marmite XO has the same or even more va va voom? I tried a bit but had a wicked cold at the time - which retreated a good two days sooner than I expected. I may have to try more scientifically!

Three odd things I didn't know:

Duct tape has antibacterial chemicals in it's glue. So all heroic idiots strapping injuries with it are fractionally less dumb than I thought.

Paracord, the sort actually used on parachutes (not the stuff you buy by the yard off rolls), has an inner thread that is patterned with the maker & making date.

Sudocrem is not just for babies. As well as looking innocuous, it has painkilling, antibacterial & antifungal capabilities. Hence when I actually bothered researching, it holds itself out as ideal for Bed sores, Chilblains, Acne, Eczema, Sunburn etc as well as tender backsides.
My caving pals swore by the tiny samples that used to be in the bags of stuff for expectant mothers (Emma's Diary?) as tiny, waterproof, easy to take underground & effective on any scratches or scrapes - then on the sunburn if you misjudged the light after a day underground.
An equestrienne pal swears by it for most topical equine ailments, but she uses it with the same prompt thoroughness on her dogs.

There are a lot of articles on the assorted girlie uses for it too - cracked heels, facemasks, preventing hair dye escaping etc but that was all a bit more than I could quite cope with.

Hm. As ever, when your car breaks down (we’re all home & safe) you review things.

In my case, I’ve been neglecting my POWER checks (Petrol, Oil, Water, Electrics, Rubber) & was endeavouring to drive without oil or engine coolant.

(Also my vehicle cover doesn’t have onward travel - being an Mway recovery, they flexed the rules to get bodies safely away from harm, bless them.)

Please, check. It needn’t be daily but it’ll spare you a lot of angst at the domestic court of enquiry!

I tried a tip I saw on YouTube today and it worked.
Someone had used the iron and had it at the wrong temperature and Burnt something,I couldn’t remove it so looked online for a product to remove it.They varied in price from £1.99 to £8.99,then I saw a link to YouTube saying a paracetamol tablet can remove it,you heat up the iron to full temp then rub the paracetamol tablet over it and wipe off with a damp cloth, they held the caplet with pliers .Then press the steam button a few times to clear any gunk out. I thought it could be classed as a prep and it’s money saving.

If in doubt - eat Twig1ets!
:p Whenever I hear mention of/ see Twiglets, I flash back on that Mr Bean sketch...........

I'm imtruiged enough about Marmite to contemplate giving it a go, might see if there's a wee jar in the supermarket when I next go YS hunting.

Thanks for the memory-jog about Sudocreme, my heels are a little parched due to sandal-wearing, I shall give 'em some Sudo tonight.

Glad you are home & safe, DFV! As the driver of an elderly Japanese van, coolant is an ever-present worry... that said, I've had an alarm fitted to warn me if anything goes wrong, as we've had two (VDub) vans spring coolant leaks in the past, far from home. It's no fun at all, being stretchered home with 5 disappointed kids...

And thanks for the Sudocreme tips - I'm in need of something heavy-duty for my feet, which take a battering at this time of year as somehow I almost never actually wear shoes or boots, as opposed to sandals & flip-flops, between May and October!

The disappointed spouse is more wearing currently... Mind, trying to figure where the cut of between repair & sack-it-what-have-you-got-in-my-size [of budget] is is being a bit of a headache as well.

Ah well. Nobody died. I have 90% cleared out the old clunker (miword what a lot of rubbish!) & since i had time, I Found the beeswax wraps my cousin made for me for Christmas! (Ahem, that hasn't played well with the gallery Either. Almost no matter How I get into work tomorrow, it will probably be a relief.)

I know David Icke says some odd stuff, but I think this video is important.

The Lovely mechanic is technically on holiday for a fortnight. However, my car had disappeared & I got a phonecall reassuring me that he has it & that it can be fixed. Time to go through the bags of stuff that came of out the car (all 5, ahem) and review the emergency kit and the rest of the just acquired over time stuff.

Go on. Review your bug out bags & car kits - as better now when you don't need to than when you see smoke...?!
  • Sounds most inconvenient, DfV.

Which, incidentally, was almost how I described my opinion of the situation on my last day of gainful employment last Friday.

By the Governors begrudging me less than a week's pay, they have enabled me to retrieve yet another albino lapine out of some formal headwear.

I smiled at the end of year thing, said that it was all terribly inconvenient, but fortunately, I had secured another position the day after the dismissal notice was printed and it lessened the blow somewhat to find that I would also still receive the Statutory Redundancy Payment due to the earlier than anticipated finish date

Once the Head made the obligatory 'you're great, here are your gifts' speech, he made a point of telling everybody that I had secured a post in one of the top 100 schools in the country. I merely sat and saw the realisation dawn upon the faces of the various Governors that they had cost themselves several thousand pounds more for the sake of around two hundred quid - and I didn't even have the temerity to remain unemployed for longer than the summer holidays.

Hopefully, this, along with Himself's earnings from last month, means that we will have a functional washing machine by Friday, a functional microwave by the weekend and a comfortable mattress by August. And maybe a more functional oven, too. I have to purchase some suitable clothing for the job - it's all so very, very naice there, so I'm thinking dresses/skirts, cardigans and woolly tights for winter, along with a good quality coat. Oh, and some sensible footwear - for which I'm thinking a pair of Derby Brogues would be suitable.

I haven't broken the news to Himself that I am reclaiming some control in the kitchen, particularly in terms of restocking supplies - and I'm considering getting an electric dehydrator along with some electrical gadgets that will make preparing foods for storage a little easier with arthritic hands.

There's only so many rabbits, though - hopefully this time he'll realise I'm out of handy incidences of Deus ex machina from now on.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.
