I'd just go back to the bank, say that it's a JD Williams product, and request that they process the chargeback. If they stil refuse, make an official complaint and if necessary escalate to the FOS.

Problem is, it's from China, so unlikely to be anything to do with JD Williams.
How was payment made, and to who?

Think the bank might notice if they try a chargeback . . .

The OP was asked for an official stockists list which does not exist as it is a JD Williams brand. That is what agrinnall is referring to when they say to tell the bank it's a JD Williams product.

They weren't suggesting they do a chargeback against JD Williams.

    Hi,

First of all, I don't understand all the unhelpful comments on this thread, what is wrong with you all, the lady is asking for some help here?

Regarding the question, it seems that it may be helpful to contact the banking ombudsman to obtain a view on the banks potential liability in this case - it may be that there is some comeback, I don't know for sure, but if you contact them and give a brief account of the facts and timeline they may be able to verify if there is any potential chargeback solution - let's face it, the bank will do everything to put you off if there is!
If they confirm there is not, then at least you won't have to waste any more energy on trying to sort this out. It's a sad fact that the tricksters of this world prey on the vulnerable, increasingly through online and digital scams and there banks don't do enough to protect against this.

Good luck, and hope you score something for consumer justice!

Neither is it helpful to make a suggestion and say you are not sure.
The bank have simply tried to verify its provenance which isn't trying to wriggle out, it's simply just a reasonable request.
The op has received lots of helpful advice and people have gone to the trouble of searching for her to identify makers. But personally I think the op needs to look into other measures to prevent her ordering online pdq.

Barclays Bank allow online banking to be switched off, if you feel this was feasible

    "Remote purchases

You can help to protect yourself from fraud and get more control over your spending by turning ‘Remote purchases’ off in your Barclays Mobile Banking app. This will stop any transactions where your card isn’t present. These include

    Internet purchases
    In-app purchases
    Mail orders
    Telephone purchases"

I take it the address label on the parcel had the senders address as China ?

As mentioned your only route is via the bank.

I guess my post wasn't as crystal clear to you as it might have been, but boo-star has it spot on.

If she still has capacity to make financial decisions, then it's a bit unfair to stop her ordering online completely because of one incident. There's plenty of people who fall for these scams. There's also plenty of people with mental impairments who rely completely on online shopping, as they cannot get to the shops for whatever reason. It could be taking away a valuable lifeline. Only the OP knows the full situation in this case.

It's a cheap coat, people don't fake cheap coats.

People manufacture and sell fake items of all prices nowadays.
Genuine Duracell batteries can be purchased very cheaply yet there are plenty of fakes available, as is the case with memory cards, and not too long ago, an outlet chain store in the UK was found to be selling fake branded shampoo.

But the op said she had been warned repeatedly.
It needs more discussion with the AP as to how this can be minimised from happening again.
The OP said she had severe mental impairment .
No ones talking about stopping someone ordering food but it seems this is likely to happen again .
